

Maggie Lee Prather was born on February 16, 1933 to the late Mary E. Dyer (late Leon) and Clarence Hamlett in Person, North Carolina. She departed this life on February 1, 2020 at George Washington University in Washington. D.C. with her family at her side where she peacefully took her journey.

She departed this life on February 1, 2020 at George Washington University Hospital in Washington. D.C. with her family at her side where she peacefully started her journey.
Maggie was employed with Faith Transportation Services for 15 years prior to her retirement in1998. She enjoyed traveling to Florida to visit her long distance families (the Frederic’s & Coleman’s) and friends to enjoy the sunshine and warm weather.
Sassy Ms. Maggie was always dressed and ready to go for a good time and great entertainment with family and friends. She spent most of her 86 years in the Washington D.C. area. She especially loved riding with the “Blue Knights” to events all over the East Coast with her friend’s and “Big H", Isler Haywood. She loved listening to Blues and Christmas music (silent night) was her favorite song of the season.
She was known for her gardening techniques. She would gather the grandchildren together and they would help her prepare her garden for harvesting. She loved to read romantic books, crochet, prepare her favorite foods and she enjoyed eating crabs. In addition, she enjoyed fishing while in Florida with her grandson Alexander.
She also freely shared her love with her only two loving siblings: the late Irvin Hamlett and loving sister, Frazell Cunningham (Malcolm) and her late sister-n-love Yvonne Alston (Aunt Dolly) and loving special cousin Towanda (Faulkner) Lewis.
She was married to the late Thomas E. Prather and remained in holy matrimony until his passing on January 23,1993.
Maggie adored her family, especially her seven children, Sherbe J. Wooten(late David), Tyrone L. Johnson(Arita), Kim M. Washington(late James), Ernest E. Prather, Angelo A. Prather, Linda K. Frederic(Hughes-Fred), Lisa A.Bates(Danny) and out of that union she survived by her wonderful grandchildren: Yolanda M. Duckett, James M. Duckett, Napoleon Johnson, Christopher Johnson, Keion Johnson, Roshell M. Prather, James H. Prather, Nicole K. Prather, Eric R. Prather, (late)Danielle K. Prather, Ar’ Vaye M. Prather, (late)Terrence P. Prather, Ronnika C. Coleman and Alexander G. Frederic.
She adored her wonderful 30 great grandchildren and 9 great-great grandchildren.
She also shared her life with “Just like her daughter”, Gwendolyn Yvette Bateman (Maurice).
She shared her life with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and so many others that she simply loved with all of her heart, she never encountered any strangers.
She adored without hesitation her loving Florida vacation friends, Sharon Seabrooks-Jackson (Sharon loved her like a mother) and Millie Hernandez (Margarita buddy) and she will be truly missed by her Porch buddy, Katherine Forman. She leaves behind longtime friends of nearly 50 years, (late) Unetta Tucker, Alma Lewis, Jean King, Gloria Hodges and Eithel Bradley, along with the golden girls: (late) Yvonne Alston, Lorraine Miller-Parker (late) Velma and many more loving friends, She adored her loving caregivers: Addie Funke (10 years) and Angela Veney (5 years) and Pat Smith (the family appreciate you lovely “Garden of roses” taking care of our mother).
She shared a life of “motherly love” to: Billy, Gregory, Diane and Shawn Wiggins, Paul Parker (Kim) Lodonia Parker, Yolanda & Angela Highsmith, Carolyn King, Gerald Samuel “Ms. Mille”, Valerie Seaborn “Hey Maggie girl”, Darlene Faunteroy, Maurice Bateman, Pat Smith “Ms. P” late Terri Green, Ronnie Lewis, Candy Lewis, Donna Forteau (Clyde) ‘Hey Momma” and Barbara A. Redden.
