Pat Lockard was a mother to three children while working as nurse. Pat cared for a family
member who had cancer. She devoted herself to her grandchildren and assisted in raising
them. Once the grandchildren were grown, Pat remained close to them and was a constant
source of guidance and encouragement. Pat was a dear friend to her siblings and several
extended family members. Pat raised show dogs as a teenager and had several dogs as an
adult. In all of these relationships, Pat modeled sacrificial love.
Patience “Pat” Lockard went to be with her Lord & Savior on April 5, 2018. She was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on August 28, 1941. She was predeceased by her adoptive parents Mary “Lil” & Franklin Lockard, her biological parents Beatrice Hetrick & Ivan Sweitzer, her brother George Thomas, Jr. & by her dear friend Donald Brunner. She is survived by her children John (Anita) VanGaasbeck, Darlene (Dan) Gentry & Joseph (Anissa) VanGaasbeck. Her Grandchildren Velma (Josh) Seale, Mary VanGaasbeck, Jessie VanGaasbeck, Joe VanGaasbeck Jr & Alyse (Jon) Dever. Great Grandchildren Alexandria Levan & John Dever. Also surviving are her sister, Faith “Dolly” Bowers, Ivan “Jim” Sweitzer, Samuel Sweitzer, Millie (Denver) Minton & Charity (Gerald) Hewitt as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts & uncles.
