Phyllis Michelle McGee Edmonson was born on July 26th 1955, in Washington DC, to the late Luther Thomas McGee and the late Ella Louise Chambliss. Phyllis transitioned on November 6, 2020 at the age of 65. Phyllis spent most of her time in Prince George’s County and graduated from Northwestern High School. She was later married to Michael Edmonson for several years and birthed two beautiful children
.
Phyllis held several professional positions starting with the Patent and Trademark office and ending at Emcor Government Services. Phyllis was a successful, exemplarily employee and took pride in work. This was true up to her final days as she diligently worked from home during the pandemic, and was happy to adjust her work schedule whenever asked.
Phyllis’s mother introduced her and her sister to traveling at young ages. The joy of those wonderful experiences started a tradition, that turned out to be “the norm” for the women in the family and became a passed down through the generations. The last trip was filled with love and family as she sailed to Rome, Italy and France in 2019. She was so excited for the next family trip to London and Paris, she had already started shopping for the 2022 embarkation. During her travels, one of her favorite activities was going to the casino and rest assured she was waiting at the door when it opened and most likely one of the last people to leave.
Phyllis was very spiritual and joined Macedonia Baptist church, located in Arlington, VA, on March 31, 2002, receiving her right hand of fellowship on June 2nd of the same year. She was an active member of the usher board and a good friend to everyone she met at church.
Her family looked forward to her inspirational morning text messages, even if it was a simple “Good Morning”. Another great memory is her love for musicals, as she enjoyed visiting her daughter and watching musicals, and most of the time singing along. This fondness for musical arts included attending the Alvin Ailey dance performance every February at the Kennedy center.
Phyllis loved seafood but amongst her favorite was raw oysters, which she tried for the first time on her 60th birthday. After her new found passion for oysters, she would order several dozens while dining; when she found something she really enjoyed she didn’t hold back.
All that knew Phyllis will miss her joyous smile and her enthusiasm for the things she loved. Phyllis lived life to the fullest and that spirit rubbed off on all that came in contact with her.
She leaves to mourn her passing and celebrate the 65 years of her life; her children, MarQuel Edmonson and Phiana Postell; her sister Patricia Harris and brother-in-law Xavier Harris, along with sisters Sabrina Pinnock, Khalihah Eccleston, Gina Simmons and brother Melvin Robinson; her loving grandchildren Tyriq Washington, Amari Edmonson, MyQuel Edmonson, Harmoni Smalls and Erielle Postell; nephew Tyrone X. Harris and niece Iquiea P. Harris (whom she loved very much). Also nieces and nephews Brianna Pinnock, Anthony Pinnock, Gavin and Deacon Eccleston; her step mother Fern “Bubbles” Robinson and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
