Samantha Inga Sanders

22 December, 1965 – 13 June, 2020
IN THE CARE OF

Fort Lincoln Funeral Home & Cemetery

Samantha Inga Sanders quietly passed away on June 13, 2020, in the comfort of her home after a seventeen year battle with Multiple Sclerosis.

Samantha was born on December 22, 1965 in Washington, DC to Nellie Sanders Dawson and her late husband Joel Dawson. She was primarily raised in DC, affectionately known as Sam to all her friends, and Snakey to her family. She attended Raymond Elementary School, Lincoln Jr. High School, and Cardoza Senior High School where she obtained her high school diploma. She was actively involved in cheerleading and served as President of the Homemakers Club, where she spoke at several meetings including one at the White House.

Upon graduation she accepted a job at Penn Camera, where she worked, until her health began to fail. She was a devoted employee who served over 10 years with this organization.

Shortly after her retirement, she moved to Smithfield, NC. She became well known among her community and attended Oaky Grove Baptist Church. She spent most of her days assisting her mother with community activities for neighbors and church members.

She later relocated back to the DMV to reside with her son and daughters. Her days were then spent enjoying music, movies, and laughter. She took her final breath surrounded by family.

Samantha is preceded in death by her father Joel and her siblings Mark, Sharon and Frederick. She is survived by her mother, Nellie; two brothers, Timothy and William; two sister-in-laws, Lordes and Donneta; three children, Tyrone, Teiona and Tiara; one daughter-in-law, Veronica; two grandchildren, Onious and Syune; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Snakey will affectionately be remembered for her animated sayings, ”Don’t Do It” and “Lord Help Us”.
