Sharon Renee Joyner was born on September 10, 1959 to the late LaVerne Greer and Lee Willie Joyner in Washington, D.C. She is baby girl of seven (7) girls and no brothers. Sharon departed this life for eternal bliss and peace on July 24, 2020 at In-Home Hospice Care of Family. Living her life on her own terms, she always put others first.

Sharon was affectionately known as "Cricket" growing up but later she dropped that and said to call her Sharon. She grew up in Northeast DC where she attended River Terrace Elementary, Carter G. Woodson Junior High School and graduated from Eastern Senior High School in June 1977. As the youngest she always thought she was the BOSS, and we would let her think that.

She had the most amazing spiritual connection to almost everyone she met, always willing to help anyone with challenging issues or just to talk. To know her, was to LOVE her. She enjoyed decorating her apartment and displaying fresh cut flowers, thrift and bargain shopping and cooking a good meal. She always was the life of the family gatherings and parties but very humble, never liked to take pictures. Several years ago, she joined a prayer circle of women through her job with bible study and continuing through her illness.

Her forty years career with the Department of Defense (DoD), Navy Annex beginning in late 1980s as a Military Personnel Clerk Typists, as she continued to work hard and get promotions, awards and outstanding performances and retired through the Office of Naval Research as an Office Automation Administrator. She also worked with Giant Foods Stores in Arlington, VA for thirty years and was known as the Queen of the Deli Department. Sharon retired from DoD during the pandemic on Thursday, April 30, 2020.

Her parents (Lee and LaVerne Joyner) and sister (Vanessa Jeryl Joyner) preceded her death. Sharon leaves to cherish her memories: 5 sisters: Wanda Joyner Jackson; Wadija Joyner Ricks; Christal Joyner Harris (Eric); Cheryl Joyner Witherspoon (Clyde); and Teresa Joyner Taylor; partner: William Reid; nieces: Nadira (LaTronia), NIlaja (Idrees), Melissa, Patrice (Miles); nephews: Kenneth (Nicole) Jason, Navin (Archana), Ivan and Bernard Jr; grand nieces, Caroline, Bria, Mia, Kennedy, Zyeeda, Gabriel, Abigail, Bella and Aria Joy; grand nephews: Emmanuel, Edrees, Jason Jr., Nason and Miles Jr; brother-in-law Senghor Baye and a host of other cousins, aunts, uncles, family, friends and co-workers.

I met Sharon in 2009 at the Office of Naval Research, and though I only saw her occasionally, we would sometimes run into each other in the Arlington County neighborhoods on the weekend and enjoy a good laugh about something. Sharon was invited to attend many ADS corporate events, and the ADS family enjoyed having her with us. Sharon was a lovely lady who I will surely miss, and may she rest in everlasting peace.

Wadija and family I will continue to lift you all up in prayer as you deal with the loss of a sister/aunt/cousin and best friend. I pray that you remember the great times, the laughter, the gatherings and the joy Sharon brought and gave to everyone. She will truly be missed, may she rest in eternal peace.
