Susie Beatrice Boston was born on February 28, 1927, in Pinetops, North Carolina to the late Sylvester and Missie Telfair. She attended Edgecombe County Public Schools in North Carolina. Susie transcended from this earthly life to eternal life with Jesus Christ on Thursday, October 15, 2020, at Doctors Community Hospital, Lanham, Maryland.
In 1952, Susie was united in holy matrimony to the late Columbus Boston of Wilson, North Carolina. They were happily married for 42 years when he departed this life. In 1954, the couple moved to Norfolk, Virginia. After a brief stay in Norfolk, they moved to Washington, DC.
Susie had an extensive career. After moving to Washington, DC, she attended Booker T. Washington night school for Nursing. She worked several jobs as a contractor until she landed her first Federal government job with Veterans Administration Hospital as a file clerk. In the late 1970s, she left Veterans Hospital and accepted a job offer with the Department of Treasury within the Office of Tax Analysis. Susie retired from the Treasury Department on December 1, 1990. Soon after retirement, Susie opened a daycare within her home. She cared for children whose parents needed childcare while they worked. She felt this was her way of helping someone in need. Susie’s daycare was not a fly-by-night daycare. She ensured each child was well prepared for school once they left her care.
During Susie’s journey, she met many life-time friends, most of who preceded her in death. She was quick to start up a conversation with anyone who would talk with her. Even though Susie was very friendly, don’t get it twisted. She would quickly call you out if she felt she had been mistreated.
Susie accepted the Lord Jesus Christ in the early 1970s. She was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Northwest Washington, DC. Susie loved to sing, so there she served as a vocalist in the Church Choir and the Benevolence Choir for several years.
Susie was full of joy and she loved life. She took much pride in her yard-work and her appearance. Both were perfectly manicured. Susie was known for wearing designer hats. She would not step out of the house if her nails were not painted and she didn’t have on her accessories. Susie loved to cook, especially holiday meals. Once she prepared the meal and set the table, she would stand back and look at it with a big smile on her face. No one was allowed to eat one nibble until she took a picture. Early in Susie’s life, she thoroughly enjoyed playing the piano, singing, shopping, and traveling with her sisters and friends. As she got older, she enjoyed dining out, puzzles, and watching TV (Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune). It was a silent time when her soap operas were on.
Susie leaves to cherish her memories three daughters Janice F. Wallace (Kenneth, deceased), Mitchellville, MD; Iris A. Boston, Waldorf, MD; Linda J. Greene, Waldorf, MD; eight grandsons Benjamine V. Boston, Andre D. Boston, Darren L.B. Wallace(Tilla), Kevin W. Wallace, Kordale L. Bryant, Brandon C. Wallace, Dezmon T. Greene, Dante J. Wallace; seven great-granddaughters; one sister Missie Hill; very special friends Katherine Gregory, Marilyn Adore,Terrance Agustus, Dinah Outten, Marnetta Malcolm, and Darla Miller-Calvin; several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
