Vonda was born on June 23, 1938, in Haleyville, Alabama, and was the eldest daughter of Talmadge and Pauline Stone. She was a graduate of Woodlawn High School. Soon after, she was wed to James R. Griffith on December 23, 1955. Vonda relocated to Bladensburg, Maryland, to support her husband while James pursued his Doctorate in Chemistry. The couple would take root in Riverdale Heights, where Vonda’s primary focus was raising her children.
In the late 70s, Vonda established a successful career in the education system as the Assistant to the Dean of Students at the University of Maryland University College. She loved the many friendships and relationships she forged during her tenure and the many that remained long after retirement. As a pillar of the community, Vonda also added real estate to her resume. While working full-time, she practiced as a Licensed Real Estate Agent under Weichert Realty alongside her lifelong friend, Karon Moore.
Vonda took every opportunity to travel with her friends, whether to the islands or within the States, to catch an away Redskins football game. She was an avid and competitive bowler, never missing a chance to roll a strike. She enjoyed playing bingo and often took her chances at the casinos, hopeful of bringing home the “Jackpot.” Holidays were Vonda’s favorite; no one ever went without a gift. She was a caring, selfless, and loving soul. Her door was always open; she was the first to welcome and invite you in.
Vonda’s beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of her close-knit family.
