Wendell Jones was born on July 29, 1942, in Cope, South Carolina to the late Paul Jones and Eloise Jones (Tyler), and the third sibling of four brothers. Wendell departed this life peacefully on January 10, 2025, in Hyattsville, Maryland.
Wendell was a hard worker, from an early age. He and his brothers worked on a farm to help their father. He received his education at George Washington Carver High School in Cope, South Carolina. During this time, he was blessed with two daughters: Lisa Marlene Jennings (Jones) and Vikki Trinetta Jones (Lillie M. Jones). Upon graduating, Wendell relocated to Washington, DC, where he would remain until death.
After moving to Washington, DC, Wendell began his professional career working as a bus driver for Metro and a charter tour bus driver for Custom Tours and All About Town. Although he was not born in Washington, DC, he could tell you more about the city than any native Washingtonian. Wendell took pride in his work and his knowledge of the nation's capital. Until his fateful day, he wanted to “get his bus and go to the city.”
Wendell resided in Cheverly, Maryland and was united in matrimony with Carolyn Graham Jones. Wendell and Carolyn had two children: Juandell Carol Jones and Kara Quinee’ Johnson (Jones).
Wendell is preceded in death by his brother Keith Jones and daughter Vikki Jones.
Cherishing his memory is his surviving wife: Carolyn; two brothers: Ralph Jones and Fritz Jones; three children: Lisa, Juandell and Kara; seven grandchildren: Paula Jones, Brionna Jones, Anthony Quarles (Vikki Jones), Kelly Jennings, Larry (JJ) Jerome Jennings II (Lisa Jennings and Larry Jennings), Quinee’ “Teek” Jones (Juandell Jones), and Kylo Johnson (Kara Johnson and Shawn Johnson); two great-grandchildren: Amari Quarles (Anthony Quarles) and Malcolm Malachi Valentine (Kelly Jennings); one Goddaughter: Moneika Small and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Wendell took pride in being the man of the house, stern, direct, and the ultimate caregiver. He was “dad” to many friends. He was a wonderful and beloved son, father, brother, husband, grandfather, great-grandfather, Godfather and friend.
He lived a full life and had much to be proud of.
