Roy Henry (Hank) Kappen

His funeral service will be held on Friday, August 30, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at Church of Christ in Bridgeport with Pastor Jonathan Seng officiating. Burial will follow at Chalk Creek Cemetery in Banner County.  Visitation will be Thursday from 1 to 7 p.m. at Bridgeport Memorial Chapel.  Tributes of sympathy may be left at www.bbchapels.com.

Roy was born in Scottsbluff, Nebraska on April 28, 1930 to Henry and Sidna Kappen. At the age of 12, he went to live in Banner County on his grandmother’s ranch. He attended schools in Banner County, Bridgeport and graduated from Ft. Laramie, Wyoming in 1949. He would rodeo, brake horses and worked for various ranches around the area. Roy married Phyllis Applegate in 1955 and continued to live and ranch on the home place in Banner County.  They shared nearly 60 years together and raised 5 children. His greatest loves next to his family were his horses, team roping and running cattle.

He is survived by his wife Phyllis “Vicki”; daughters Margie Kappen (Bayard), Marilyn Kappen (North Platte, NE), Bonny Richards (Gering); sons Jim Kappen (Lingle, Wyoming) and Bill Kappen (Bayard); grandchildren: Kyle Schneider, Nicki Schneider, TreyLynn Schomp, Josey Schomp, Brittany Richards, Zane Richards, Ashley Dilks, Brooke Kappen, Morgan Kappen, Gabrielle Kappen, Taya Kappen and Jessica Kappen and sister Maxine Willis.

He was preceded in death by his parents, infant son Joe Henry, and grandmother Ella Williams.
