Ellen Zoe Roe, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother (Gigi), and friend, passed away peacefully on August 24, 2025, at the remarkable age of 99. A long-time resident of Wauwatosa, WI, Ellen’s life was one filled with love, faith, laughter, and nearly a century of memories.
Born on March 7, 1926, in Green Bay, WI, to George and Ellen (Farley) Bursinger, Ellen was born in Green Bay and later moved to Tomah, before eventually settling in Wauwatosa, where she built her home and community. She married William “Bill” Roe, and they shared over 50 years of marriage. After more than 25 years apart, Ellen and William are now reunited in heaven. She was also preceded in death by her son, Patrick Roe; her brothers, George and Jack Bursinger; and her sister-in-law, Bess Bursinger.
Ellen is survived by her son, Bob (Kathleen) Roe; daughter, Peggy Roe; daughter-in-law, Bonnie Kiley Roe; sister-in-law, Carol Bursinger; grandchildren, Jessica (Alex) Sciborski, Melissa (Josh) Kagerbauer, Justin (Yessra Sankari) Hallman, and Mandy Hallman; and great-grandsons McKinley and Maxwell Kagerbauer and Jameson Sciborski. She will also be lovingly remembered by her nieces, nephews, and their families, who brought her much joy.
Ellen worked for many years at the U.S. Postal Service, where her dedication and kindness touched countless lives. Beyond her work, she was known for her creative spirit—whether sewing, tackling craft projects, or finding treasures while thrifting for a good bargain. Proud of her Irish heritage, Ellen was deeply involved in Irish culture, celebrating it with joy and pride. She also cherished time spent playing cards with friends and traveling, especially her winters in Sun City, Arizona, alongside Bill.
In her later years, Ellen found great happiness at Harwood Place, where she enjoyed the company of fellow residents. She loved sharing stories about her family, especially her cherished great-grandsons, who were the light of her life.
Ellen lived her life with warmth, humor, and resilience. Her nearly 100 years serve as a reminder of the beauty in everyday moments—family gathered at the table, a well-played card game, or the satisfaction of finding just the right fabric for a sewing project.
Her life will be celebrated by those who loved her most, with gratitude for the many years they were blessed to share with her.
