Arnold “Arnie” Gerson, 83 years. Son of the late Sam and Anne Gerson; Beloved brother of Susan and Ben Margulies and the late Greta and Jerry Gordon; Loving Uncle of Sherryl, Carole, Helene, Brian, Sharon, Jill; also survived by many Great Nieces and Nephews, and Great-Great Nieces and Nephews; and his Dog Jasper. He also leaves his Bournedale Family.
Born in Boston, Arnie graduated Tufts University, where he was captain of the basketball team and All New England in baseball. His graduate work was in education, he obtained an Ed.M. in guidance from Harvard University. Arnie was a teacher and high school counselor for seventeen years. He taught in the Avon School system, transferring to Brookline until his retirement. He then devoted all his time to Camp Bournedale, to begin a new journey. His parents purchased Camp Bournedale in 1939. As a youngster, he was a camper, counselor in training (CIT), counselor, and then director. It has been a labor of love for all these years.
Arnie excelled in baseball and basketball, Major League Scouts including Bill Kearns. The Seattle Mariners head scout kept in touch with him trying to induce him to become professional. However, his love was the camp. He was devoted to mentoring young people to become competitive athletes. Many summers children came to his camp where he taught them the value of friends and lasting relationships. He loved those summers and all those young people he guided.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, November 24th at 11:00 am at Lindwood Memorial Park, 490 North Street, Randolph, MA.
Friends are invited to visit Camp Bournedale on Wednesday, November 24th from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm to share fond memories of Arnie.
