He later graduated from the University of Michigan with a Master of Arts in Actuarial Science in 1964. He achieved the designation of Fellow, the highest designation in the Society of Actuaries, and rose to become Senior Vice President and Corporate Actuary at John Hancock Life Insurance Company.
