Ellen's legacy for me  is simple yet profound - something all of us can learn from, appreciate, and certainly celebrate.

Her example was to be able to open her heart and home to others; to make people feel loved, respected, and welcome - whatever their circumstance.  She created and nurtured community that naturally drew people in - which of course happened in the case of myself but also countless others, who found themselves sleeping on the Den sofa.  

One other thing that stands out to me about Ellen is that she had this innate ability to make people feel like she was in their corner, had their back, and one always felt secure and able to be oneself in her household. Steve was the rock, but Ellen set the tone.

And the tone she set reached across multiple generations spanning her own friendships and extending out to her children's, nephew's and niece's - and pretty much anyone who was part of the extended Jacobsonian tree.  It is not surprising that the Jacobson house also hosted the best parties.

It's hard to put into words the depth of gratitude, love and appreciation I have for Ellen, but I like to think some of her example, even if just a little, rubbed off on me, and in any case, I will certainly carry all of those wonderful memories around in my lifetime.

My condolences go out to all Jacobsons, but also to the extended family she touched with her grace over the years,  who had the good fortune of having Ellen in their corner at one time or another.

Who could ever forget such a beautiful woman inside and out. When you first met Ellen Jacobson, you would see a stunning beauty, and her beauty matched her kindness. She was always so supportive, and always uttered words of respect. I never heard her yell, and she was just a chill person that loved life.  The door to her house was always open, and she never locked it. I got the privilege of spending quality time with the Jacobson family starting in the 80s. My family had a house in Old Orchard Beach, Maine, and when I was 21 decided to sell it. Maine was a magical place, and especially with the Jacobson family as my second family. They warmly invited me to stay with them in Pine Point, Kings Road. I have so many incredible memories. I quickly realized that I wasn't the only one that felt that way, as both Lee and Davey had friends and relatives that shared my same feelings.  I became so close to the family, that Steve and Ellen became my adopted Uncle and Aunt. Aunt Ellen, as I referred to her, was another protective Aunt to me  someone who would always stand up for me, when the boys would speak cruel words, or trying to rank on me for the clothes I was wearing when we were getting ready to go out to The Lighthouse. She was so kind, funny, and generous. I would sit with her, and have wonderful conversations. I grew to love my Aunt Ellen so much. She was the coolest.  She never judged me, and had a great deal of trust in me. Aunt Ellen would even let me use her house and just tell me to lock it up when I was leaving. I found myself wanting to spend as much time with the Jacobson family, because there was such a comfort being with them.  We have all been blessed by knowing her and spending time with her and her family, and I'll never forget the joy I had getting to know my Aunt Ellen. I love her, and her memories will be cherished forever.

Mrs. J was an amazing neighborhood mom to all of us lucky Driscoll boys! So glad to have had been a part of her life. The nicest person ever !

Ellen was born to be royalty. She always had an air about her that she was a real life princess. She listened well and gave sound advice to so many. She was a true family matriarch and a wonderful friend. I'm blessed to have known her and to have thought of her as a second mother my whole life.  Ellen and Steve opened their house and their hearts to so many and showed what it really meant to love unconditionally.  Their house was our house and they were everyone's parents.
