Frederick Lowell Bernstein

With tremendous sorrow and grief, we announce the passing of Frederick L. “Fred” Bernstein, age 93, of Sudbury, MA and formerly of River Vale, NJ, who passed peacefully in his sleep on April 24, 2026, in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his loving family. Frederick was born on January 24, 1933, in Newark, NJ to Phillip and Dorothy (Smith) Bernstein.

A graduate from Harvard College, class of 1955, and Yale Law School in 1958, Frederick and Iris (Seader) Bernstein were married in 1955, and they shared seventy-two years in marriage.

A brilliant lawyer who practiced in New Jersey for over forty years, Fred had deep and varied interests, including sports, stamp-collecting, crossword puzzles, world politics and family activities. He was deeply loved by his wife, Iris, and sons Steven and Geoffrey.

Fred was the person people turned to when faced with difficult situations and he always stood for the underdog.

He lived life to the fullest and battled courageously against multiple illnesses. His spirit will live on through his wife and children.

Frederick led an honorable life, admired by all that knew him.
