Inez Kurn Janger of West Tisbury, MA died on Tuesday, September 11th. She was 81. The funeral service will be on Friday, September 14 at 11:00 am at Martha’s Vineyard Hebrew Cemetery, West Spring Street, Tisbury, Massachusetts. All are welcome. The family will receive visitors for shiva at the Janger residence following the interment.
Inez was beloved by family and friends. She is remembered by her sons, Edward, Matthew, and Michael Janger; her daughters-in-law, Vicki Eastus, Elise Brady, and Meaghan Janger; her grandchildren, Emma, Max, Sophie, Lily, Ruby, Finn, and Alex Janger; and countless friends.
Inez and her husband, Allen Janger, lived most recently on Martha’s Vineyard. Prior to that, they raised their family in Hastings-on-Hudson, New York.
Inez Janger had 25 years’ experience in human resources management. Her experience spanned management and consulting positions with Citibank, KPMG, and in private practice.
Inez was a tireless advocate for deaf and hard-of-hearing children and adults. She was instrumental in the passage of Section 4201 of the New York State education law, concerning “The Instruction of The Deaf And Of The Blind”, and worked for ten years at the Lexington School for the Deaf as children’s rights advocate. She was active in the Alexander Graham Bell Association for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, where she served a term as President, and also served for many years on the association’s Board of Directors.
Before moving to Martha’s Vineyard, she was active in local community affairs in Hastings-on-Hudson, NY. She was elected to the Board of Education and served as both member and President. She served on the Board of Temple Beth Shalom.
On Martha’s Vineyard, Inez was an active member of many charitable boards and organizations. She was a founding member and served as Chair of the Martha’s Vineyard Donors Collaborative, an organization dedicated to expanding the philanthropic donor base on the island and assisting non-profits in capacity building. She was a member of the Board of Directors of “The Yard”, a dance residency program on Martha’s Vineyard. She also served on the Board of The Farm Institute.
