Israil was born in a small town outside of Kiev, in a family of a tailor and a house maker. He had a Ph.D. in material sciences from a university in Ukraine and retired from Texas Instruments after a long and successful career as a scientist, working on some exciting projects that changed several industries. He was an innovator, with many patents to his name and respected in his field. He patented a new material that was used in a wide range of applications such as improving the speed of sleds for the US Olympic Luge team, making car bumpers lighter and more durable and in the space industry.
Israil had a bright mind, ferocious drive, and ability to excel in many things both personal and professional. When applying for a visa to leave the Soviet Union, Israil lost his job and sources of income. In his drive to provide for his family, he moved it from Ukraine to Lithuania that was more hospitable to Jews, and started a book binding business. In his usual way, he brought his engineering and science expertise to this endeavor, that not only allowed him to automate the archaic process, but also help to hire his fellow Jews who lost their livelihood and needed to survive.
Israil helped many people through his life, by supporting their careers, helping them find jobs, as well as offering advice and providing help during life events.
Israil loved to travel, had passion for books and music. He was the life of a party, had a positive outlook, charming disposition, and deeply loved and cared for his wife, family, and his friends. He left an indelible mark on the lives of people he met and interacted with.
Israil leaves behind his wife Valeria (Lera) - the love of his life for 61 years, his son and daughter in law, Vladimir and Marina, his 4 grandchildren and their spouses , Henrik and Jaime, Josh and Tori, Jenny and Rachel and 3 great grandchildren Julian, Lia and Caleb, his sister , her husband and nephew Slava, Alex and Eugene Elin and family, his brother-in-law and his niece, Yuri Vatkin and Tanya Vatkina and family, as well as countless friends and extended family.
