Age 90, of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, passed away on April 1, 2023. Jim was born on February 22, 1933, to the late George and Anna (Seidel) Tofias and raised in Brookline, MA. He was married for 62 years to the love of his life, Joan (Kaplan) Tofias. Devoted father of Felisa Honeyman and her husband James, and Michael Tofias and his wife Mindy. Cherished grandfather of Benjamin, Madeline, and Emma Tofias. Dear brother of the late Allan Tofias and the late Marian Nadel.
Jim graduated from the Browne and Nichols School in Cambridge, MA, Dartmouth College, and The Harvard Business School. Education always was a high priority. After attending the United States Coast Guard Officer Training Program, he served as a Lieutenant from 1954-1958, seeing duty in the U.S. and from Iceland to Panama. Loyal member of the Dartmouth class of 1954, he served as Class Treasurer for many years and attended class reunions throughout his life; his Dartmouth friends were so important to him.
Jim took great pride in his children and grandchildren and loved being with family and friends. An avid sports fan, he played basketball, tennis, squash and golf, beginning summers as a child at Camp Alton in NH. Staying fit, he played golf 3 times a week right up to his 90th birthday. After retiring from a long career in real estate investment and management, he enjoyed golf, bridge, jigsaw and crossword puzzles, cheering on every Boston sports team, building 4000-piece LEGO models during the pandemic, and, of course, a good steak.
A graveside service will be held at Sharon Memorial Park, 40 Dedham Street, Sharon, MA on Tuesday, April 4 at 11:45pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Jim’s memory may be made to the Dartmouth College Fund or the charity of your choice.
