Joan L. “Johnnie” Scheff, age 94, of Brighton, formerly of Newton MA, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, January 25, 2025.
She was the daughter of the late Samuel & Rosalind Levine, sister of the late Carol Schwartz and Hebert Levine. Loving mother of Jonathan (Kimberly Butterwick), David (Mary Jane), and Daniel. Adored grandmother of Jacob, Rachel and Sarah.
While working as the Executive Assistant at the Cambridge Center for Adult Education for decades, Johnnie loved the Harvard Square scene and the intellectual curiosity of the faculty and students. Johnnie said being there made her feel young.
Her love of travel began as an exchange student to Nice France when she was in high school. Years later, when her children were on their own, Johnnie traveled throughout Europe, the Middle East and Asia composing photographic journals for every trip.
The comfort and dignity of her final years was made possible by many but especially the loving and compassionate care provided by Olivia Nansubuga and Lilian Jean, to whom the family is deeply grateful.
Services in the Dana Chapel at the Adath Jeshurun Cemetery, 350 Grove St., West Roxbury on Tuesday, January 28 at 10:00am.
Shiva will be private.
