
Lois was born on October 1, 1935 in Boston. She received a PH'D in History at Boston University and taught at BU, Northeastern, Hartford and many other colleges. In 1982, she got her degree in Library Science at Simmons College and worked as a librarian in Braintree for nearly 20 years.
When Lois wasn't teaching or working in the library, she enjoyed going to synagogue, the last one she attended was Temple Emanuel in Newton, enjoyed going to Israeli singing and liked politics and supported the Democrats. At home, she watched CNN, MSNBC and liked watching Dancing With The Stars on ABC. One thing Lois reveled in were her trips to Israel.
Lois leaves behind her twin sister Sonya of Brookline, her older brother Norman of Philadelphia PA, her daughter Erica and her husband Tom Cavin of Arlington, her nephews Eliot Schickler of Brookline, Eric Schickler and his wife Terri Bimes-Schickler of Berkeley, California and their two kids; Marvin Levine and his wife Reba Levine of Florida and their four kids and nine grandchildren; Matthew Chansky, his wife Lisa of New Jersey and one child; and James Chansky, his wife Catherine, their two children and one grandchild; and her nieces Aviva Chansky-Guttmann, her husband Danny Gutmmann and their three kids; Neysa Chansky-Chasen, her husband David of Arizona and their four kids; Claudia McDermott, whose husband Richard is deceased, their two kids and one grandchild; Sherrill Kinney of Maine and her husband Leonard, who is deceased, their three kids and two grandchildren; Arlene Alpert Melhman of Chicago and her husband Dr. David Mehlman; Keren Suberi and her husband Moshe Suberi of New Jersey, their two kids and five grandchildren; Tamar Chansky-Stern, her husband Phil of Philadephia and their two kids; Linda Janidlo and her husband Tom Janidlo of Alaska and their three children and four grandchildren.
Lois was the daughter of Israel Chansky (D-1969) and Sadie Waldman-Chansky (D-1975) and was predeceased by her brother Daniel Chansky (D-2000), and sisters Beatrice Chansky-Levine (D-1990) and Esther Chansky Alpert (2004). Her ex-husband Miles Wasserman, whom she remained friends with, passed away in 2005. Her brother-in-law Abraham Schickler and sister-in-law Elisa Chansky passed away in 2018 and 2020, respectively. Her brother-in-laws Simon Levine and Melvin Alpert passed away in 1976 and 1999, respectively.
