Marc Raphael Jartman

Marc Raphael Jartman, (Age 96) COL, US Army (Ret.) of Peabody, MA, formerly of Chestnut Hill, MA, Mountainside, NJ, and Annapolis, MD, died peacefully on Tuesday, February 28 at Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers, MA. Marc was born January 21, 1927, in New Britain, CT to Louis H. Jartman and Ruth (Raphael) Jartman.

Marc attended New Britain Public Schools and the Manlius School, in Syracuse, NY. He spent a gap year at MIT prior to his appointment to the U.S. Military Academy. He graduated in the class of 1949 with a BA in Military Science. Upon commissioning from West Point, Marc served in armor and ordnance units in the US, Germany, and Korea.

While working on the General’s staff in Germany, Marc was recommended to continue his education at the Harvard Business School, where he earned an MBA in 1956. While at HBS, Marc met a lovely woman in the administration office, Cynthia Winn, to whom he would marry in 1957. After receiving his honorable discharge from the US Army in 1960, he continued his duty to the US by serving in the Army Reserves, where he retired from service with the rank of Colonel in 1987.

Upon discharge from the Army, Marc worked for a number of defense industry contractors as a marketing executive in the greater Boston area, Plainfield, NJ and Annapolis, MD. He was always active in many industry, civic and charitable organizations.

Marc was the mentor and family historian to generations of family members, introducing them and keeping them connected in so many ways. He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Cynthia (Winn) of Peabody, MA, his daughter Joy Jartman and her husband Mitchell Lowe of Ipswich, MA, his grandson, Ryan Slaven of Brookline, MA, and his bonus grandchildren and bonus great grandson. Mr. Jartman is predeceased by his daughter Andrea Shuman and her husband Michael.

Marc was an avid fisherman and chess player, spending many an hour with his brother-in-law Arthur Winn, best friend Harold Ottobrini, and his uncle Sidney Raphael exercising his intellect and passions.

Services will be held at the Chapel at Sharon Memorial Park, 40 Dedham Street, Sharon on Sunday, March 5, 2023, at 10:00AM.
