I am very sorry for your loss. I attended the camp in the early 80's and became a CIT for two season as well.  He was such a kind and inspiring person. Rest in peace.

I owe an enormous debt to Marty and Sylvia. I began my eight years at Kippewa in 1958, as one of the 50 or so original campers. The Silvermans provided the place where I met lifelong friends and had the best times ever. They will be missed by all of us who love the camp. My deepest sympathies to the family.

The five years Samantha spent at camp are filled with so many memories of those special moments that happen only in the Kippy bubble.  Every year my daughter would count the days until camp, until the start of that "one big party, run by Silvia and Marty."  Jon, I will never forget Kippewa and what it did for Samantha and I will never forget your parents.  To all the Silvermans, deepest sympathy from Samantha and her family.

I spent the summers from 1958 to 1964 at Camp Kippewa.  My fond memories of Camp and friendships made will remain with me forever.  Thank you Marty and Sylvia.

My condolences to the Silverman family on the passing of Marty and Sylvia. They founded Kippewa so many years ago, and what a wonderful place it was. I spent 7 summers there, and my two sisters went as well. I learned many life lessons and skills there -- some taught directly by Marty and Sylvia. They created a place that was unique and important, and it lives on in hearts and thoughts.

We have all truly lost two of our extended family with the passing of Marty and Sylvia.  I worked at Kippewa full time 1979-1984 and part-time through 1991 grounds and maintenance and had the pleasure of "coming back" for the 50th year to spruce up my grounds for the reunion.  Simply put, it was the best job with the best people I have ever had and the fond memories of all the good times and the laughs are with me always.  Marty's tidbits of wisdom and Sylvia as my self-proclaimed "Jewish Mother" live with me today and in the future. To Linda, Paul and Jon, my thoughts are with you and your families.  Your parents will live forever at that special place, on our favorite Lake Cobbosseecontee, we call Kippewa.

On behalf of the Berger family Betty, Judy Kline, and Leslie, I wish to extend to Linda, Paul and Jonathan my sincere condolences.We were part of the Kippewa family from 1959 - 1963. In, 1959, Betty, my Mom, was the first Camp Mother. Then for the remaining years, she managed the kitchen including working with Chef Jessie planning the delicious menus. At the time of my sister's death, a year ago,I spoke with Marty and we reminisced about camp.Judy was the Junior Camp Unit Leader. She also had the pleasure to be Paul's first grade teacher at the Greenlodge School in Dedham, Mass. I started as a camper and continued until I was a Junior Counselor. I spent happy summers on the waterfront with Dick Karp (swimming and canoeing). Marty and Sylvia made my summers at camp some of the best times any young person could experience. My thoughts and prayers are with the family.

Shelley and I went to Kippewa in the very early days, 1959-63 when our dad was the camp accountant. We will never forget the love and guidance Sylvia and Marty gave us, the varied activities we were exposed to, (who ever thought we'd climb real mountains!), or the lifelong friendships that were nurtured over those summers so long ago. The 50 th Reunion was also a joyful week-end, sleeping in a cabin, reminiscing by the lake with some of the girls as well as visiting Sylvia and Marty in their cabin. Linda, Paul and Jonathan were little kids back then, now adults with families of their own. We send our love and sincerest condolences on your double loss. They will be forever missed and remembered. I went to Kippewa for 5 seasons starting in 1956.  I was one of the first campers.  I am saddened by their passing.  Lots of fond memories.  I did things at camp I would never have done like mountain climbing and camping and water skiing.  So many memories......Ruth Rosenthal

Marty and Sylvia  created a place where girls felt safe and secure to express their creativity and individuality in the most beautiful of  environments. During the many years that I worked at Kippewa for Girls, we became dear friends. They included me as a member of their extended family, during all seasons. It was an exciting, unique, fascinating, warm, and caring place to be. Marty believed that the true measure of a person was being a "Mensch. " His vision of a truly individualized summer experience for every girl was the essence of Kippewa. The thousands of girls who spent many happy summers at Kippewa made lifelong friends and irreplaceable memories. Marty and Sylvia set a standard of excellence for all summer camps. One of Marty's favorite sayings was, "There are 56 days of summer camp, and every day counts!" Marty and Sylvia made every day count for all the days of their lives.

I had the pleasure of working for Marty and Sylvia at Kippewa for several summers. They were an extraordinary couple whose love for each other was unmistakeable. I will always be grateful to both Marty and Sylvia for the friendships made possible and the confidence they gave me in myself.

The first time I talk with Marty was by phone. We have a long and interested conversation. At the end we agreed that I was going to Kippewa as Tennis Director. It was 1985, my first summer in camp. And from then I went to camp for 5 summers. I fell in love with camp, with the kindness of the Silverman's. My memories are all full of great moments as when I found Marty fulling camp with blue ribbons when Aaron came to life. As my name was long, Marty shorten it to MIL, and as to now, my friends here in Formose, Argentina, call me like that.
They have a wonderfull and rich life. And gave birth to hundred of children in Kippewa.
May God have them both in a place where they can contnuing enjoyin to each other.

Marty and Sylvia, I am so deeply sorry to hear that you are no longer with us, your global family. You gave so many of us memories that were so special, I even share these with my own children now - thank you both very, very much.

I have so many many fond memories of Sylvia, Marty and Camp Kippewa. Too numerous to mention but living on the lake for those 6 summers obviously had an affect on me as we now live full-time on Lake Winnipesaukee in NH. I spent six summers at Camp Kippewa in the early 60's and then later sent our two daughters, Amy and Stacy, there. My heartfelt condolences to Linda, Paul, Jonathan and their families.

I went to Kippewa for five years and have the most wonderful memories.  The Silvermans always remembered my lame bathing suits.  My daughter Jill went to Kippewa for many years and each time I came to visit, Marty would remember my name.  The Silvermans were loving and remarkable people. I loved the water sports and the plays and especially Shabbat with the grape juice for all.  I went from 68-73

Hi, it's Lynn Sapperstein- if anyone went to camp btwn 1972-75, you' d recall the closeness with the directors and the campers.  They were great leaders! I played tether ball with Marty often outside our cabin. They were serious competitive games we all had! I visited the camp last spring for the first time since I was a camper. It was so surreal! I went to the cafeteria where I saw our cabin photos and went to my old cabins where all the plaques were on the wall that we created! Marty and Silvia helped me be the person I am today. I gained confidence, independence, and creativity from being a camper and I will always have a special place in my heart for them!

Oh what sad news!! I travelled from the UK in 1981 to spend my summer as a camp counsellor at Camp Kippewa and this is where I met Marty and Sylvia and their son. I had a wonderful time and the memories I have will stay with me forever!!

We are deeply saddened to read of the deaths of Marty and Sylvia.  We lived in Westwood for many years as they did and they were our friends friends.  

They were a great couple and we will remember them with affection..

I (Lois) have good memories of carpooling with Sylvia to Wheelock College where we both worked in the 1970s.

I worked at Marty's camp in Maine for 3 summers from 2000-2002. My first summer I worked part time in the photo department and part time as his secretary. I will always laugh at the memory of him telling me I was the worst secretary they ever hired, but the best photo instructor they ever hired. Those summers gave me my first taste of travel and some of the best friends in the world, and for that I will be eternally grateful. Rest in peace Marty and Sylvia.
