

Naomi Miller of Newton passed away peacefully on the evening of February 19. She lived a long, full life marked by curiosity, generosity, and a deep love of learning and culture.
She was born in New York City on February 28, 1928, the only daughter of Nathan and Hannah Miller. She completed a BA degree at the City University of New York, an MA in art history at Columbia University and a doctorate in art history at the Institute of Fine Arts. Naomi was a professor emerita of the history of art and architecture at Boston University where she taught from 1964 until 2004. She was a Fellow of the Society of Architectural Historians and had served as the book review editor and general editor of The Journal of the Society of Architectural Historians. A historian of Renaissance and modern art and architecture, she was the author of eight books and many articles on topics ranging from French Renaissance fountains; to garden grottoes; Renaissance, Bologna; urban mapping, and Boston architecture. She loved to travel and had been fortunate to do so widely. Naomi is survived by three nieces and many admiring friends and former students.
A Memorial Service will be held at Sharon Memorial Park, 40 Dedham Street, Sharon, on Thursday, February 26 at 10 am.
