WARNICK, Nathan Henry, Of Natick, passed away peacefully in his home on March 11, surrounded by his loving family. Devoted husband of 73 years to his beloved Yettie (Haber) Warnick. Loving son of the late Simon and Dora (Granofsky) Warnick and brother of the late Albert, Jack, and Rose (Idelson) Warnick. Cherished father of his three children Steven, and his wife Lucinda (Smith), Craig, and his wife Pam (Abrams), and Andrea, and her husband James (Masterman). Beloved grandfather to Jason, Samantha, Ari, Jeremy (deceased), Justin, David, and Kayla, and great-grandfather to Rowen, Max, Emmet, Mitchell, Emmett, and Holly.
Born on April 20, 1920 in Scranton, PA, Nate spent most of his childhood in Buffalo, NY. It was there that he met the love of his life, Yettie, whom he married on December 5, 1943. Shortly following the wedding, Nate headed off to serve in the infantry in World War II in France and Germany. He was reassigned to the Quartermaster Corps as a Technical Sargent, and he established the Army Post Exchange in Berlin. After nearly two years away from Yettie, he returned home and worked as a draftsman on Bell Aircraft's X-1 Rocket Plane in Buffalo, NY, before settling down with Yettie in the Dunkirk / Fredonia, NY area.
In Dunkirk, Nate became an accomplished businessman. He was an expert furrier and was President of Haber’s Inc., a women’s clothing store that he grew to seven stores. He was a devoted member of several organizations in Dunkirk, including the Lions Club and Temple Beth El, for which he served as President, as well as the Chamber of Commerce and the local Masonic Lodge.
Though he was an active member of the community and a successful businessman, Nate’s world revolved around his wife and his family. In 1984, he and Yettie relocated to the Boston area, where, over the next 30 years, he became the center of a growing family. His easy smile, contagious laugh, and kind heart made him cherished by all who knew him. Nate was gregarious, warm, and paternal, leaving a family that looked up to him as their role model and many nurses, aids, and friends who saw him as their second father.
Nate was full of life. He loved music and was known as much for whistling Frank Sinatra through his home as for being the first on the dance floor at his grandchildren’s weddings. He enjoyed performing in local theatre, watercolor painting, and traveling. He laughed loudly at his favorite comedians Myron Cohen and Jackie Mason and took every opportunity to repeat their routines to anyone who would listen.
Most of all, he lived for Yettie. Their love story began as teenagers and lasted 73 beautiful years.
Services will be held at Temple Beth Shalom in Needham, MA on Monday March 13, 2017 at 10:00am. Interment will be at Sharon Memorial Park in Sharon, MA.
