

Sylvia (German) Yacknowitz, age 95, passed away on Saturday, January, 24, 2015 at Benchmark Senior Living at Robbins Brook in Acton, MA. Daughter of the late Louis and Carrie (Goldstein) German, and cherished sister of the late Pearl Levy, Beverly Pinsker, and Irving German, Sylvia grew up in Mount Vernon, NY. She was the beloved wife of the late Pincus M. Yacknowitz and is survived by her two devoted children, Tina Bloom (and husband, Steven) of Acton, and Eric Yacknowitz of Goshen, NY, along with two loving grandchildren, Gregory Bloom and Kerrie Yacknowitz.
After graduating from A.B. Davis High School, Sylvia worked as a switchboard operator prior to a job as a wartime appointee with the U.S. Department of Commerce in New York City. After World War II, she worked for the Consulate General of Israel in New York until her marriage in 1952 and move to Englishtown, NJ. Sylvia and Pincus moved to Spring Valley, NY in 1963, then to Nanuet, NY in 1965, and retired to Margate, FL in 1979. While living in Nanuet, she worked for Israel Bonds for many years.
Sylvia had a wonderful sense of humor. Nothing gave her more pleasure than spending time with family and socializing with friends. She also loved playing canasta and word games, listening to music, and traveling throughout Europe and the United States with her husband.
