I am the oldest son of Chuck, as most people referred to him by this name. I am so grateful we were able to be in such close contact with each other the last few years of his life. I finally was able to see my dad feel completely at ease in my presence. Gone was the worry and sadness. He finally got to see me thriving, free and living the life he always wished for me. 
 Some afternoons when I finished early with work, I’d head over to drop in on him at my sister’s place he shared with her and my niece. Usually he was alone or only in the company of his home attendant. He always greeted me with that big smile of his and a hug. Our routine rarely differed. We would chat briefly and cover the usual areas of questioning, such as how was he feeling and the latest going ons in his life. It took us 10 minutes tops to cover all that ground. Then he and I would either watch a tv show together or just sit quietly enjoying the other’s presence. I would often look over at him from the corner of my eye and see him staring at me with the most relaxed look on his face. At times he would say to me, "I love you Jamie. It’s really good to see you." I will cherish those times always. My father was a kind man, as well as a truly good man. He derived no pleasure from talking badly about others. He had no real use or attachments to money or material things of expensive value. He valued his family. He worked his ass off putting Tracy and myself through 8 years of prep school. He assisted 3 of his kids through college. He truly enjoyed his career as an airplane mechanic and his second career with NYC Transit. He NEVER complained about working. He was constantly working overtime. He supported his family well.
 He and I had our differences over the years but we moved past it all and thankfully instead enjoyed our father and son relationship for the final years. I already miss him terribly.  Love you always Dad.

Thank you to the McLaughlins, the beloved family from my mother's side, whom my father loved dearly. My father touched many lives, but he lived by a credo that prized family above all else. An honor to be a part of the family my father loved so much!

The sanctuary lamp at Saint Mary's R.C. Church in Providence, Rhode Island will burn from May 17 to May 23  for the repose of the souls of Chuck and Jackie Connor. 



Chuck was an intelligent, effervescent, big-hearted man who loved to talk and to listen.  If there were one word to describe Chuck, it would be the word "kind."
 
We loved you, Chuck! May Our Lord welcome you, forgive you and give you the peace we all long for...
