Diomedes "Papo" Viera, Jr.

Papo, was raised in Red Hook and resided all his life in Brooklyn. He was a proud US Marine, who served in Vietnam. He worked at Greyhound and at All Racks Industries for many years. Papo had a great sense of humor, loved his family, and enjoyed watching baseball, basketball, and action movies.

He is preceded by his parents, Antonia Osorio Viera and Diomedes Viera (Rivera). Beloved father of Diomedes Viera III and Armando Viera, beloved grandfather of Armando Viera, Jr., beloved step-father to Venessa Marie Soto and Crystal Lee Vargas, and beloved father-in-law to Jasmine Santiago. Papo was appreciative of aid and support provided by Elisabeth De Los Santos.

Papo is beloved by his ten siblings and partners: Yvette Sylvester, Letsie and Robert Bagley, Vivian Viera, Armando Viera, Mildred Miranda, Eillen Viera, Julia Anderson, Yvis Barnes, Lynette Viera, Wanda and Adrian Mason. He is survived by many nephews, nieces, grand-nephews and grand-nieces.

A visitation for Papo will be held Thursday, July 25, 2024 from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the Cusimano & Russo Funeral Home, 2005 West 6th St, Brooklyn, NY 11223. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, July 26, 2024 from 9:45 AM to 10:30 AM at Church of Sts. Simon & Jude, 185 Van Sicklen St, Brooklyn, NY 11223. An interment with Marine Corp military honors to follow in Calverton National Cemetery, Calverton, NY 11792.
