Esther Kerrigan died peacefully on March 29, 2021 at Maimonides Hospital, Brooklyn New York at age 99. She was born in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico on December 25, 1921 to Pedro Richardson-Kuntz and Juana Rojas-Oquendo. Esther grew up in Vieques, Puerto Rico along with her younger siblings Ivonne and Pedro.
Esther and James met in Vieques but were married in Rio Piedras on April 4, 1942 and had two children, James and Frances. Around 1946, they moved to Brooklyn, New York and finally settled in Sunset Park in 1971. They were married for 45 years until James' death in 1987.
Esther is survived by her son, James Kerrigan and her daughter, Frances Metta. Her four grandchildren and their spouses: Vincent Keane, wife Pamela; Jeanette Canderozzi, wife Micheline Abood; Malinee Carnegie, husband Joshua; Shannon McDonald, husband Christopher. Her nine loving great grandchildren: Lily Canderozzi, Devyn McDonald, Quinlan Keane, Tallulah Canderozzi, May Carnegie, Sen Lin Carnegie, Buddy McDonald, Orla Keane and Eve Carnegie.
Esther lived her long life humbly and gracefully. We were incredibly lucky to have such a beautiful person in our lives. She will never be forgotten and she will be greatly missed.
A visitation will occur Tuesday, April 6, 2021 from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Joseph G. Duffy, 255 Ninth Street, Brooklyn, NY 11215. A Mass of Christian Burial will occur Wednesday, April 7, 2021 at 9:45 AM at St Thomas Aquinas, 249 9th St, Brooklyn, NY 11215. A committal service will occur Wednesday, April 7, 2021 at Calverton National Cemetery, 210 Princeton Boulevard, Calverton, NY 11792.
