Born on April 16, 1936, to Aniello and Lucia Vicidomini in Nocera, Italy, Gerardo grew up working on a farm and when he turned 18 he served in the Italian army. In 1956, Gerardo met the love of his life, Anna Maria Pisapia, while she was working on a farm picking tomatoes. The two were married in 1960 and went on to have two children, Lucia and Aniello (husband of Maria). After immigrating to America with his family in 1967, Gerardo worked at multiple bakeries in Brooklyn, and ultimately as a longshoreman before his retirement.
At home, Gerardo had many things he was passionate about. He helped maintain a bountiful, backyard garden of fruits and vegetables. He was especially proud of his fig tree from Ischia. Gerardo always looked forward to his traditions of making homemade tomato sauce and wine with his family.
In his free time, Gerardo enjoyed visiting the slot machines at the casino (and climbing his fig tree when everyone’s backs were turned). He was known for his sense of humor and silliness, always trying to make everyone smile. He was a generous man, and extremely grateful for all those who helped take care of him.
Though our hearts are heavy with his loss, we find comfort in knowing that Gerardo lived a long, joyful, and meaningful life. He will greatly be missed by all his family and friends. His grandchildren are forever grateful to have memories of Sunday dinners and having a strong family bond. He is survived by his brother (Carmine), daughter (Lucia), son (Neil), and his three grandchildren (Christina, Aniello, and Michele). He was blessed to meet his great-grandson (Peter) this past September. Gerardo was predeceased by his wife (Anna Maria), and siblings (Prisco, Rosa, Giuseppe, Frank, Giovanni).
