John Frank Ferretti

John Frank Ferretti, age 76, of Bensonhurst, Brooklyn passed away at Menorah Nursing Home on Sunday, September 19, 2021. John was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2014 and fought a long and courageous battle until he was finally made comfortable by the hospice nurses through MJHS at Menorah.

John is survived by his wife of 52 years, Eileen. He was the beloved father of John Michael and Lori Christine. In 2019, he proudly became known as “Papa” to Lori’s son, Liam.

John was the youngest of six children and was a member of the United States Navy. John was a NYC Sanitation Worker for 25 years. During his final years on that job, he attended Brooklyn College (CUNY) earning both a Bachelor’s and Master's degree in Sociology. After his retirement from the DSNY, John

worked as an Admissions Counselor at the office of Admissions Services at CUNY. He was a valued member of the staff there and was well-liked by his colleagues.

John was known for being very personable, funny, and had a profound knowledge of cinematic history. He had a knack for making people feel comfortable enough to share their stories with him. One of his special talents was being able to get someone's life story in ten minutes. John loved spending time traveling with his wife and with family and friends; especially during the holidays and on special occasions. Recently, his greatest joy was getting to know his grandson, Liam, and watching him grow and learn new things on a regular basis. He loved being called Papa! He will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him!

A visitation for John will be held Friday, September 24, 2021 from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM & 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Cusimano & Russo Funeral Home, 2005 West 6th St, Brooklyn, NY 11223. A funeral mass will occur Saturday, September 25, 2021 from 9:45 AM to 10:30 AM at St. Athanasius Roman Catholic Church, 6115 Bay Parkway, Brooklyn, NY 11204. Entombment to follow on Saturday, September 25, 2021 from 11:30 AM to 12:00 PM at Cypress Hills Cemetery, 833 Jamaica Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11208.
