

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Assistant Chief Michael P. Fox. Born in Brooklyn, New York on April 18,1939, Mike was devoted to his family, friends and his New York City Police Department career. He was a loving father, husband and grandfather, who truly put others’ needs before his own. He ensured his family and all those he loved, had everything they needed. Though we feel the profound ache of his absence, we take comfort in knowing that his legacy will live on in the hearts that he touched.
Mike entered the New York City Police Department in May 1961, and began his career on patrol in the 9th Precinct. He was promoted to Sergeant in July 1981; Lieutenant in May 1984; Captain in August 1986; Deputy Inspector in May 1991; Inspector in May 1994; Deputy Chief in May 1998 and Assistant Chief in March 2001. He retired in April 2002.
Assistant Chief Mike Fox served in Patrol Borough Manhattan South for forty plus years. He retired as the Commanding Officer of Patrol Borough Manhattan South and served as a police officer in the 9th Precinct for 20 years. After 5 years of working his way from Sergeant to Captain, Assistant Chief Fox became the Executive Officer of the 13th Precinct, then the Commanding Officer of the 10th, 13th and Midtown Precinct South, as well as the Manhattan South Task Force. He also served as the Executive Officer of Patrol Borough Manhattan South, as well as Adjutant and Special Projects Inspector.
He is survived by his wife Madeline Sturges, daughter Karan (Fox) Simoneau, son in-law Joseph Simoneau, his grandchildren Ryan and Drew Simoneau, his wife Madeline's children James (Nicole) Sturges, Daniel (Kristen) Sturges, Timothy (Kim) Sturges, Maggie (John) Driscoll and grandchildren Rebecca, Daniel, Timothy, Seamus, James and Ava Sturges, his sibling Marie (Fox) McGrath, his sister in-law Kathleen (Rice) Fox, his nieces, nephews and many family members from the Fox, Carney, Volpe and Sturges families, who will continue to cherish his memory. He was predeceased by his parents Stephen and Marie Fox, his brother Peter Fox, his brother Stephen and sister in-law Florence Fox, and nephew Peter John Fox Jr.
Visitation will be held at M.J. Smith Sons, 255 Ninth Street, Brooklyn, NY 11215, US, on March 28, 2026, from 9:00 am to 10:30 am.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Name of Jesus Church, 245 Prospect Park W, New York, NY 11215, US, on March 28, 2026, at 11:00 am.
