Born October 8, 1949, in Queens, New York, Robert was the second of three brothers born to Vahe and Genevieve Roubian. He studied architecture at Pratt Institute and spent most of his working life as an independent contractor, bringing curiosity, skill, and creativity to his work.
A sailor, captain, avid swimmer, and owner of sailboats, Robert was happiest on the water. Whether ocean, lake, pond, or pool, he could be found with snorkel and mask doing laps, cleaning his boat, digging for clams, or just floating and soaking in the sun. His home of 40+ years in Brooklyn, was filled with art, treasures, projects, stories, and memories reflecting his curious mind and his love of travel, adventure, and discovery. He loved his cats (there were always cats), cooking and good food, and tending his garden.
Robert was exceptionally generous with his love and time. He was fun-loving, playful, and mischievous—known to the younger people in his life simply as “Bahboo.” He would often say, “relationships take work,” and lived in service of that idea—always making time to call, show up, and connect with the family and friends he loved.
He is survived by his older brother, Armen (Cindy); his younger brother, Paul (Noreen); his five nieces and nephews, Susan, Cheryl, Deborah, Daniel, and Joan; and many close friends and chosen family (Paul, Chrissy, and many others) who loved him.
Robert’s family would like to extend a special thank you to Ingrid and all the gentle, caring people who helped make sure the end of Robert’s life was lived with dignity and filled with kindness.
