

Harold Edwin Schaeffer, age 80, of Brooksville (Highpoint) Florida, died at the Hernando-Pasco Hospice care center in Brooksville, FL., on Wednesday, July 23, 2014. A longtime resident of Highpoint, coming originally from Reading, Pennsylvania. Born to the Late Harold L. & Myrtle (Troop) Schaeffer on August 28, 1933. Harold was a veteran of the US Navy as a Quartermaster during the Korean War. Following his military service, Harold served 35 years in Law Enforcement, as a City of Reading Motorcycle Policeman, and City of Reading Mounted Policeman, and as a Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board Officer. At one time Harold was in the top 5 highest regarded police officers in the State of Pennsylvania. He was known to be a great carpenter and loved making quality furniture. His likes also included painting landscapes. Harold was preceded in death by his parents Myrtle & Harold Schaeffer, brothers Jack and Robert Schaeffer, and sisters, Ethel and Mary. He is survived by his loving Wife Miriam R (Salerno) Schaeffer, sons, Terry Schaeffer and Doug Schaeffer, both of Reading , PA., daughter, Karen Downs, of Carterville, GA., 6 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild. As requested by Harold, no public services have been held and he will be cremated and buried at the Florida National Cemetery, in Bushnell, FL.
