Demetre Apostolakos

We will carry on his memory through pictures, stories and the treasured seeds collected over the years from his love of gardening.

In 1960 Jimmy or Mitso (as he was affectionately known) left his village of Molai in Greece to pursue a better life in Canada. On September 2, 1961 he married his love Mary (Vekris) and together they had their daughters Persefoni (Kenneth Hirsch) and Loula (Jacques Ng Thow Hing). Jimmy’s incredible work ethic and devotion to his family helped him run two successful restaurants over the years. He took great joy in his Cape Cod summer vacations with his family. When he decided to retire he made sure his grandchildren were spoiled by frequent visits and as many treats as they could eat. Gabriel, Katerina, James, Liliane, Julian and Melina will miss their beloved Papou. Little brother George Apostolakos (Hrisouli Papadatos) will have fond memories of their time spent together over the years. This man, who found great pleasure in simple things, had room in his big heart for all his nieces and nephews, relatives and many friends that he made over the years. Until we meet again.

A special thank you to Dr. Khannasov at the Herzl Memory Clinic and Dr. Cruz and the very special nursing and staff at the Institut Universitaire de Gériatrie de Montréal. We are grateful for the love, care and support that you provided to your fourth floor Papou over the past five months.

Funeral service on Monday September 9th, 2019 at 12 p.m. at St-John The Baptist Greek Orthodox Church (5220, Grande Allée St-Hubert, Quebec, J3Y 1A1). Family and friends are invited to meet back at the church following the burial.

Donations in his memory can be made to the Memory Clinic at the Jewish General Hospital or the Institut Universitaire de Gériatrie de Montréal.
