It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James (Fon Ngue) Yee on May 26 at the age of 89. He passed peacefully surrounded by his wife and children as the sun crested up in the morning.
James was a devoted husband, survived by his beloved wife Dip Yee Woo, his unwavering companion for nearly 60 years. He is survived by his children Edward (Denise) and Geneva (Winston) and the proud grandfather to Brandon, David, Phillip, Sarah, Sophie. With so much love in his heart, he took on the role of grandfather to Marco and Kai, and as a father figure to many family and friends.
Ever the humble and gentle man, James arrived in Canada at 20 by himself from China with no money and no knowledge of the country’s two official languages. In his time in Canada he overcame adversity and worked tirelessly to build a better future and opportunities for him and his family. He looks back on his life proud that he started as a dish washer to eventually owning his own restaurant, learned to read, write, and speak the language, owning a home, and putting his two children through university. His quiet strength and unwavering devotion to his family and loved ones will remain with us always.
James, ever ready with a big smile, radiated happiness and always so very eager to accommodate and make others feel at ease. Whenever asked for advice, his usual reply of “Whatever makes you the happiest” is an adage we will continue to live by in his honour.
Family will receive condolences at Darche Funeral Home, on Friday May 29, 2026 from 10am to 1pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
