To know Uncle Norm—or Uncle Nounou, as some of us affectionately called him—was to know true generosity, effortless humor, and incredible warmth. He was a natural comedian and a history buff who could have been the coolest teacher in any school. He was also quite the rock aficionado, shaping my young taste in music by introducing me to the likes of Cream, The Doors, Blind Faith, and The Who in my early teens.

When my brother David and I lost our mother young, Uncle Norm stepped into our lives with an abundance of love. During our weeks-long visits from out west, he had a rare gift: he truly listened. In a world that didn't really know how to handle our grief, Norm validated my pain, held space for everything we said, and never judged.

That support stayed with me. I remember getting into a touch of trouble shortly after moving back to Montreal from BC. Norm gave me a bit of a stern talking-to that I completely deserved, but ended with words I’ll never forget: "I say this because my love for you is unconditional." That was Norm—guiding with honesty, wrapped in absolute love.

He protected my youth with genuine fun. He’d sit on the floor late into the night playing video games with us, treat us to countless lunches and dinners, and brave every roller coaster at La Ronde by our side. Knowing young boys, he’d rent us the coolest, grittiest, most provocative movies—not to be gratuitous, but because he just got us.

He was an exceptional husband, a devoted father, and a legend of an uncle. I’d give anything for one last afternoon with him—blasting "White Room," crushing a few adult beverages, riding Le Monstre, and seeing how long we could stand on one leg on the Metro without falling over (yes, we did that!).

Uncle Norm, you made me feel safe, seen, and loved when I needed it most. Thank you for the laughter, guidance, and sanctuary.

My heart is heavy knowing you’re gone, but I’m grateful for the beautiful memories we shared.

You were always there for my mom, our family, and me during some of the most difficult times in my teenage years. I’ll never forget your support, protection, and love.

You and Paula always welcomed me and the girls with open arms. We always felt loved, cared for, and at home with you, and I’ll carry that feeling with me forever.

You were funny, caring, protective, and truly one of a kind. You left a beautiful mark on my life and on our family.

I can’t help but think of my mom and how much she loved you. I know she is  waiting for you with the biggest hug. ❤️ I find comfort in imagining the two of you together again with Teddy, Nan with a Ceasar, Grandpa, Ta with her glass of wine 🍷 

Thank you for everything, Uncle Nounou. Rest peacefully, and give Mom a big hug for me. Until we meet again, you’ll always have a special place in my heart. ❤️🕊️

I haven’t had the words. Honestly, I still don’t.

My brother was a good man. He was kind and generous. He could be a bit like Archie Bunker at times. Never towards family. He loved his family.
He took good care of me when I was a kid while our Mom was battling cancer. I remember he had gotten me on a bus for my first day of high school and the door closed on him. Well the panic he had as his little brother drove away on that bus.
Norm supported my journey as an actor. He saw every play and musical I was in. He came out to P.E.I. in the early 80’s when I was in a production of The Shadow Box. He was so proud.
Norm escorted our mother to my high school graduation in 1979. My father had passed in 1977.
I remember listening to him describe the movie he had just seen to my parents. He was talking about The Exorcist. His description wanted me to see the movie even more. I was 10. Norm was 17.
Before going to school we would read the back of cereal boxes as we ate breakfast. Norm would pop his head above the box and just look at me. ‘’Mom, Normand is looking at me.’’
I guess I do have the words. So many more as only good memories of my big brother Normand are surfacing.

My thoughts and prayers will be with you. As a Pastor I have a church service to lead here on this date. Please share this one of many Norm memories I have:
I remember riding my bike down a steep hill towards a bridge at our grandparents' country place. Norm was sitting on the handlebars hanging on for dear life. As I recall, he was screaming STOP STOP.  So, when I did, he flew off the handlebars onto the broken wooden deck of the bridge towards a hole which looked directly down to the waterfalls. I'll always remember Norm recounting this story to me and accusing me of trying to kill him. Jokingly of course. Haha. 
He was my little brother and I loved him dearly. I shall forever remember him: his ability to always make people laugh. He never had anything bad to say about anyone. Love you my brother. Bobby

Norm was a truly generous person, always willing to help others. I have fond memories of the IT Children's Christmas events, where he was always ready to step in and do whatever was needed to make the day special and magical for the children.

I am deeply saddened by the loss of Norm. My heartfelt condolences go out to you, your family, and everyone whose life was touched by him.

Norm was not only dear to you, but he was also very dear to all of us at CN. He was the kind of person who dedicated his life to helping others. No matter what was asked of him, he was always there to support, guide, and find a solution. If something could not be resolved immediately, you could count on Norm to come back the next day with an answer or a way forward. His dedication, honesty, kindness, and genuine caring nature made him truly special.

Norm was a remarkable man who touched countless lives throughout his lifetime. He earned the respect, admiration, and friendship of so many people because of the way he treated others with compassion and sincerity. He made a difference wherever he went, and his legacy will continue to live on in all those who had the privilege of knowing him.

Paula and family, while the sorrow you feel today is immense, I hope that in time you can find comfort in the many wonderful memories you shared with him. Although we cannot bring him back, we can hold on to the laughter, the joy, the love, and the countless precious moments that made him such an extraordinary husband, father, family member, and friend.

Please remember that Norm is only away from our eyes, not from our hearts. In many ways, he is closer than ever, living in our memories, our thoughts, and in the values he left behind. His spirit will continue to be present in the lives he touched and in the love he shared with all of us.

Norm, you will be greatly missed. I missed you before, and I will miss you even more now. Thank you for everything you gave to your family, your friends, and to all of us at CN.

Norm was such a class act and knew how to get things done the right way. 
I will always remember fondly when he helped me get unused CN furniture in order to setup a little lounge area by my office. 
It was outside of the rules, but it just made sense and he was happy to help me out.
A great, GREAT human that will always be part of my CN career memories.
