Aurelia Rivera, devoted wife, loving mother, caring grandmother, dear sister, passionate educator and school counselor, and great friend, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 14, 2021 in Brownsville, Texas at the age of 66.
Aurelia was born on December 25, 1954 in Montemorelos, Nuevo Leon, Mexico to Jesus and Ramona Rios who proceeded her in death. She is also proceeded in death by her sister Dolores Medrano.
Aurelia earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from the University of Texas at Austin and M. Ed. in Education in Counseling and Guidance from the University of Texas at Brownsville. She was a teacher and school counselor for 34 years. Most of her career in education was spent at Villareal Elementary where she also attended as a child. She was a caring, genuine, and dedicated counselor. She always had a smile, loved sharing her knowledge and skills, and she always went out of her way to help anyone in need. She was a beautiful person inside and out.
Left to cherish her memory is her devoted husband Gumecindo Rivera Jr., their children- Jennifer (Charlie) Leal, Michael (Lasondra) Rivera, Randy (Sylvia) Rivera, eight grandchildren- Juliana Leal, Aria Leal, Hayden, Haylee, Brayden, Mozes Rivera, Avery Rivera, Bailey Rivera, four siblings- Roberto Rios, Graciela Garcia, Idalia Sanchez, and Estela Carrillo, as well as numerous nieces and nephews that she cherished.

Visitation will be held from 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm on Thursday, January 21, 2021 with the recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 pm at Funeraria Del Angel Rose Lawn, 4464 Old Port Isabel Road, Brownsville, Texas 78526. The mass will be held at 9:00 am on Friday, January 22, 2021 at Immaculate Conception Cathedral located at 1218 E. Jefferson Street, Brownsville, Texas, 78520. The burial will follow at 10:00 am at Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens, 4464 Old Port Isabel Road, Brownsville, Texas 78526.
