Douglas "Doug" Epigmenio Hinojosa, lovingly known as Grandpa Chiqui to his grandchildren, passed away at the age of 69 on Saturday, August 9th, 2025. Douglas was born on November 1st, 1955 to loving parents, Guadalupe "Lupe" & Epigmenio "Pime" Hinojosa. He was born and raised in Brownsville, Texas and devoted his life to his children and grandchildren.
Doug was a hardworking man and always made sure his family was taken care of. He began working at Porter High School in 1984 and dedicated 34 years of his life to them, creating fond memories and long-lasting friendships along the way.
While Douglas’ family was not what you’d call a big one, it was filled with big personalities. He was a proud grandfather to four grandchildren and truly lived each day for those kids. His face always lit up when he knew he would get to spend the day with them.
Douglas was preceded in death by his father, Epigmenio "Pime" Hinojosa, and his mother, Guadalupe "Lupe" Hinojosa. He is survived by his wife, Norma Linda Hinojosa, his daughters, Veronica Hinojosa, Vanessa Ontiveros (son-in-law James Ontiveros) and four grandchildren: Leilah Faye Ontiveros, James Douglas Ontiveros, Isaiah “Ike” Ontiveros, and Vivienne Rayne Ontiveros. He is also survived by his sisters, Diana Nicholson (brother-in-law Bryan Nicholson) and Monica Hinojosa Telese (brother-in-law Jim Telese).
Dad, we will miss you so very much. There is a huge hole left in our lives now that you are not with us. You always knew the right things to say, and you also knew when to just listen and be there for comfort. We always knew we would be taken care of through anything because you worked so hard to make sure you’d always be there for us if we needed it. You were the one who always knew the right thing to do when one of us did not. Thank you for all the calls, for checking in, for calling in the morning while we were on our way to work or school, for always remembering an important day for each one of us and always wishing us the best through that day. Thank you for all of the laughs and hilarious jokes, thank you for the memories, and thank you for being our dad.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday, August 15th, 2025 from 2:00pm-7:00pm at Funeraria Del Angel Rose Lawn. We would love for family and friends to join us and share fond memories of Doug and the fun times shared.
In Lieu of flowers the family requests a you share any photos or fond and funny memories you may have with Douglas here on this page.
