I was a police officer in Harlingen in the 70'S. Gains and I became close friends as pilots in the police helicopter unit there in the Valley. He was my instructor and as I said we became good friends, sharing many good times. I Just heard of his death, or I would've responded sooner. I feel very sad at his passing.

I knew Gaines since elementary school. He was a really nice guy and liked by everyone. In later years I flew with him often. I regret losing touch with him.

My condolences to the family. Gaines and I were together during a very dangerous time for both of us. I will always be grateful that he was there. He was like a rock.

I was very sadden to learn of the passing of Mr. Burns.  He was such a prime example of a father's love for his children and an involved parent. Cynthia and family. We are so sorry to hear of Gaines passing. I can't even begin to name all of his special qualities. As a young girl he was one of Paula and my favorite cousins. Loved when he came to visit. It was so evident how much he loved you and your family. My prayers and love are with you all. Wish I could be there. Blessings.

Attended Russell Elementarty with Gaines and Carl Scott. Strange, after all these years, his name is still fresh in my memory. As for Carl, he would often exchange lunches with me.

I remember Gaines from BHS and the Golden Eagle Band where we were both member.  He was a very nice person, and I remember him fondly.  My condolences to his family.

I am so sorry for your loss. Mr. Burns was such a tremendous supporter of swimming. He motivated me to be a better swim coach through his unwavering support. I will miss him.

Gaines and I were in school together from Jr. High through High School in the best of times. I remember him well.  My deepest sympathy to all of his large family as I know you will each miss him dearly.

Gaines was closer to my older brothers age (Bucko), but I remember him from the football games in front of our house on Resaca Blvd. Great memories. My condolences to all the family.

I grew up with Gaines and his brothers in Brownsville, school, Boy Scouts etc. I had lost touch with him over the years. Sorry to hear of the loss.
