Leonor was born in Los Fresnos Seccion 20A, H. Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico on March 17, 1932 to Rafael Garcia and Cruz Garza. She was the youngest of ten children that soon were orphaned with the death of her mother. Her oldest sister Guadalupe, her other siblings, and father would guide her into adulthood. Leonor lived on the family ranch until her marriage to Genovevo Rubalcaba of Brownsville, Texas on February 10, 1951.
Leonor and Genovevo raised a family of four children in Brownsville. They taught them the values of hard work, education, and self reliance. The marriage ended in divorce in 1984 but the life link, their children never broke.
On December 15, 1984, with the blessing and presence of her four children, Leonor married Lorenzo Soto of Bryan, Texas. They shared almost 36 years of love and care. Together they watched the family grow, as adult children married and grandchildren were born. The last few years were filled with illnesses, surgeries, and fractures for both of them but also laughter, stories, and domino games.
Leonor loved to dance, sing, and laugh. She had the greenest thumb that could root cuttings to beautiful flowers and grow tasty tomatoes. She carefully tended to her cactus plants so she could cook delicious nopales. Leonor would look at a picture in a catalog, cut out a pattern on paper, and sew school dresses for her girls. She loved hand crafts like knitting and quilting or making seashell decorations. She loved fishing and walking on the beach. Most of all, Leonor loved her family. She will be deeply missed by her husband, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and large expanded family of siblings, cousins, nieces, and nephews in Mexico and the United States.
