

Lupita Torres was called to be with our Lord on February 8, 2012 surrounded by all her children, family and many friends. Lupita was born to Manuel and Josefa Barajas on Nov 07, 1938 in Nueva Rostia Coahuila, Mexico.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jose Meliton Torres, brother Jesus Barajas, twin baby daughters Blanca Estela and Martha Laura and baby daughter Leticia Isabel.
Left to cherish her memory are her siblings, Margarita Lopez, Manuel Barajas, Felipe Barajas, Concepcion Gonzalez, Juana Ruiz, Francisca Garcia, and Catalina Reyes; Her children
Maria Esther (Alberto) Alejandro, Josefina (Marco) Moreno, Patricia (Jesus) Palacios, Jose Meliton (Georgina) Torres Jr., Jesus (Isabel) Torres, Maria G (Ben) Reyna, Osvaldo (Elsa) Torres, and Jesus Manuel (Veronica) Torres; her Grandchildren David, Daysha, Agustin Omar, Jesus P., Jesus D., Melisabel, Patricia, Ulisses, Alejandra, Jessica, Liliana, Jose Meliton III,Osvaldo D., Samuel, Osvaldo T., Jesus T., Heather, Angel, Gerardo, Milton, Halen, Harley; and her Great-grandchildren Adriana, Jazmyne, Jesus Manuel and Izabel Marie.
Lupita Torres was a woman of profound faith, compassion and good will.
On Nov 1, 1980, Lupita widowed at age 43 with 8 children ages 6 to 22. She worked very hard to support her family including traveling up north to work during the summers with her children. She always said she was married to God and he was all the help she needed to raise her children. Lupita was fully devoted to her family and her home was always open to family and friends.
Lupita worked at Haggar’s for 10 years and after her retirement she dedicated herself full time to God’s work.
Lupita was a proud member of Christ the King Catholic Church since 1978, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister and Lector. She became a CCD teacher and when she realized that lack of transportation was keeping children from attending classes, she formed the neighborhood CCD classes and traveled around Brownsville taking classes to children for many years. Through her illness she never stopped providing CCD classes and up until the time of her death and with the help of her good friend Ben Salinas she had 13 children still attending classes at her home.
Lupita never forgot her humble roots and for years she and her family donated food and clothes to families in the Valle Hermoso, Mexico area.
Lupita volunteered and took the Holy communion to the sick and elderly to their homes and in hospitals. For 23 years Lupita and her family volunteered at the Annual Christ the King Church Kermes. For about 20 years Lupita produced, directed and created the costumes for the recreation of the annual Nativity Scene at Christ the King Church with all participant being her children, CCD children, and her grandchildren. Many of her CCD children also participated in the annual Virgen de Guadalupe celebrations and the Fiesta del dia de Cristo Rey with full “Matachines” gear and costumes which she also hand crafted.
Lupita was a leader and a very active member with Valley Interfaith. She often traveled to Austin and as far as California to ensure the Valley’s needs were heard. It was not uncommon to see Lupita at public meetings seeking assistance for the less fortunate.
Lupita never stopped participating in God’s work.
Visitation will be held on Friday, February 10, 2012 from 11 am to 9pm with the Holy Rosary to be prayed at 7pm at Funeraria Del Angel Buena Vista.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2012 at 10 am at Christ the King Catholic Church.
Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers are her sons Jose Meliton, Jesus, Osvaldo, and Jesus Manuel, grandsons Agustin Omar,
and Jesus Palacios.
Honorary Pallbearers are her sons-in-law Alberto, Marco, Jesus, Ben, and her brother, Manuel Barajas.
