On Monday, August 9th, 2021, Salvador Ramirez (also known as Sal) was called home at the age of 60. Born and raised in Brownsville, TX, Salvador was a cherished member of the community. The world has lost an amazing son, husband, father, and friend.
Sal Ramirez met his wife and the love of his life, Gracie Ramirez, while they were both students at Homer Hanna High School in 1980. They were married in 1985 and their love only grew stronger every day. After graduating High School, Sal and Gracie both worked in the movie theater at Amigoland Mall, Sal then worked as a Security/Toll Collector at the Gateway International Bridge. His last role before retiring was working at BISD as a paraprofessional with Special Education students. However, Sal’s greatest pride was spending time with his wife, Kassandra and Sal Jr, family, and church community. He was always willing to listen, offer a hand to anyone in need, and lived his life trying to follow the word of God.
Throughout the last 14 years, Sal faced many health concerns and regularly required dialysis treatments. He fought for so long and stayed strong among truly difficult times. Our only consolation during this tremendous loss is knowing that he is now at peace and will no longer feel any pain. As his family, we hold every memory of Sal dear in our hearts and admire his positivity until the very end. We are thankful for his unconditional love, every laugh and hug, and every single day he spent on Earth.
Some of Sal’s favorite things: going to the movies, volunteering at his church, listening to oldies music, seeing the Charro Days parades and carnival, going out to eat with family, and traveling during his younger years.
Salvador is survived by his devoted wife of 36 years, Graciela P Ramirez; his daughter Kassandra Ramirez; and his son Salvador Ramirez Jr; his aunt Maria Rosa Ramirez.
Salvador was preceded in death by his mother Cristina Ramirez † and his father-in-law Julio Puente †; his uncle Reynaldo Ramirez †, and his uncle Salvador Medrano Ramirez †.
