She was born to David and Ila Mae Gault on March 19, 1932. She grew up in Round Rock, Texas and attended Round Rock High School and Southwest Texas State Teachers College. She completed her degree in Elementary Education at THE University of Texas. She was a Life Member of the Texas Exes. Her early memories at the Gault Dairy Farm were of milking eight cows before school and playing with siblings Nancy Gault Mayes and David Wayne Gault (deceased).
She shared 70 years with Roy Vaughan living a life full of family and adventures. Her years included raising three sons, travels and teaching school for 20 years in Manor and Elgin, where she developed curriculum for gifted and talented students.
Over 52 summers she gently nudged ideas that came to life in expansions to the tiny summer cabin that became a family refuge. She somehow knew that the cabin would play an important part of the life and legacy of her family. Billie was well known and loved in their Colorado community that remembers her warm relationships and gatherings to bring neighbors together. EVERYONE was welcome at her cabin for the annual 4th of July celebration!
Billie is remembered by anyone who knew her as gracious. She was a vision of beauty with grace and always had a gentle spirit with an easy going and kind sense of humor, and a warm laugh cultivated by raising three boys. Feeling too young to be called grandma, she became our “B“and that went well with Roy's "RV“but the kids always combined their grandparents as “BRV".
Music was important to Billie. Her singing voice was powerful and a beautiful presence in the choir at Central Baptist in Bryan and the "Church on the Mountain" in her beloved Colorado.
Billie’s family will miss her deeply: Roy Vaughan and sons’ families.
