On Thursday, April 8 the Altar Society rosary will be recited from 4-4:30 pm with the visitation following from 4:30-8 pm and the main rosary at 6:30 pm at Dignity Memorial Funeral Chapel, Bryan. The funeral mass will be held Friday, April 9 at 10 am at St. Anthony Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Mr. Calvary Cemetery.
Bonnie was born in Bryan, Texas on January 24, 1929 to Frank Cimino and Annie Licce Cimino. She was only 3, when her mother passed away, and a few years later her father married Lena Sache, who became Bonnie and her sister Lena’s second mother.
In 1947 Bonnie married Johnny S. Lampo, and they would have celebrated their 74th wedding anniversary on April 13. Throughout their married life, Bonnie was a constant companion and supporter of Johnny. While she did not relish the adventures quite as much as he did, she was there with him for all of them from business, to civic, to church endeavors. From the early days working with him in the grocery business to Farmer’s Market to Pizza Hut, Bonnie and Johnny were a team.
Over the years Bonnie devoted her life to her family and her church. A lifelong member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, she and Johnny were recently recognized as the church’s longest living married couple. Bonnie served her church and her Lord in many different ways. She was a member of the Altar Society and served as Clerical Endowment Chairman for 46 years and was recognized by the Bishop for her service. She was also a member of the Holy Rosary Society, the Sacred Heart and Mother of Grace Societies. Bonnie, along with her sweet sister, Lena (who was also her best friend) was a daily communicate until her health no longer permitted her to attend daily mass.
While church and family did keep her busy, she also found time to become a member of the Briarcrest Ladies Golf Association, the Triangle Ladies Bowling League, The Republican Women of the Brazos Valley, and with Johnny she was a longtime member of Briarcrest Country Club and the Jolly Corks Dance Club.
Bonnie had five children, Sam, Frank, Marianne, John and Christopher. For 37 years, from the time Sam started school in 1954 until Christopher graduated from college in 1991, she had children in school and was room mother for all of them when they were young and as they grew, always supported them in all of their activities. Later, she followed her 13 grandchildren. As her great grandchildren came along, she found it harder to keep in close contact with her ever expanding family, so in her mid-80’s Bonnie got an iPhone and iPad and learned how to email and text and use FaceBook and FaceTime. Now she could stay in contact with her large circle of extended family and friends. As the family grew, Bonnie worked to keep everyone together. For many years everyone met at their house once a month for birthdays, and she cooked the meals for everyone. Her whole life was dedicated to her church and to her family, who enjoyed her wonderful Italian cooking and traditions and reaped the benefits of her faith and prayers. Cooking and sharing food was an extension of her love, and she shared that with family, friends, neighbors and many others over the years.
Wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, godmother, sister, aunt, cousin, friend – she relished all of these roles and was always a true and faithful servant to the Lord.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents and stepmother; brother-in-law Frank Patranella; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Luke and Jobey Ruffino and great grandson Ethan Andrew Lampo.
She is survived by her husband, Johnny Lampo; children Sam Lampo (Carolyn), Frank Lampo (Sheryl), Marianne Ruffino (Larry), John Lampo (Kim), and Christopher Lampo (Sandi); grandchildren Johnny Sam Lampo, Matt Lampo, Andy Lampo (Moriah), Monica Trevino (Randy), Marcy Porrata (Adrian), Melissa Ruffino, Paul Ruffino (Jessica), Zach Lampo, Max Lampo, Alex Lampo, Cassidy Lampo, Luke Lampo and Dominic Lampo; great-grandchildren Eli and Gabe Porrata, Jackson and Samuel Lampo, Ross and Roman Trevino, and Evelyn and John Ruffino. She is also survived by her loving sister, Lena Patranella, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and godchildren.
We would like to give special thanks to Comfort Keepers and her wonderful caregivers who helped take care of Bonnie in her last few years.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Clerical Endowment Fund c/o St. Anthony Catholic Church, 306 S. Parker St., Bryan, Texas 77803.
