

Carroll Bennett Taylor, 82, of Bryan, passed away February 6, 2015 in Bryan. Visitation will be held Sunday, February 8, 2015 at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A funeral service is scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Monday, February 9, 2015 at Memorial Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow at Steep Hollow Cemetery.
Coach Taylor was born January 10, 1933 in Normangee, Texas, the son of Vallie (Bledsoe) and Bennett Searcy Taylor. He attended Bryan Public Schools and graduated from Bryan High School. He received a baseball scholarship to Allen Academy Junior College in Bryan where he entered the ROTC Program. He attended Texas A&M and graduated from Sam Houston State College in Huntsville. He received a commission as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army in 1955 and was honorably discharged at Fort Chafee, Arkansas in 1958.
Coach Taylor taught science and coached all sports at Allen Academy for 25 years. After leaving the teaching and coaching profession, he was as supervisor of the physical plant at Texas A&M University, retiring after several years of service.
Coach Taylor enjoyed fishing, golfing, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He also enjoyed his Wednesday morning coffee group. He was a member of Central Baptist Church.
Coach Taylor was preceded in death by his wife and the mother of his children, Betty Ann Tobias Taylor of Bryan; parents, Vallie (Bledsoe) and Bennett Searcy Taylor; sister, Patsy (Tootsie) Taylor Pond; brother-in-law, Robert I Pender, Sr. and step grandson, Matthew Von Gruben.
Survivors include his beloved wife of thirty-three years, Billie Anne Taylor of Bryan; children, Patti Taylor Skalaban and husband Ted; David Bennett Taylor and wife Teresa, and Laura Taylor Davis; step-children, Margie Mariott Barbee and husband Steve; Debbie Payne Hightower and husband Tim; Karen Gruben Dickson and husband Joe; grandchildren, Ashley Parcus and husband Kyle, Casey Skalaban, Cody Taylor, Caylee Davis, Tobias Davis; step-grandchildren, Mitzi Mariott Pampell and husband Jeramy, Coulter Mariott and wife Bridget, Eddie Payne, Bryan Payne, Daniel Gruben and wife Heather, and William Gruben and wife Alicia; great grandson, Hudson Case Parcus; step great grandchildren, Ava Grace and Jack Mariott Pampell, Conner Payne; a sister, Peggy Taylor Pender, and nephews, Paul Pender, Robert I Pender, Jr. and Matthew Pond.
