Joan Arlyn Gordon, age 94, passed away peacefully on December 14, 2025, in Bryan Texas surrounded by the love of her family. Joan was born on February 5, 1931, in Chicago, Illinois, to Raymond and Pauline (Weyer), who instilled in her the values of faith, resilience, and compassion that she carried throughout her life.
From her first marriage to Arnold Richard Schaid, they had nine children, each of whom brought Joan immense pride and joy: Kathleen Fleck, Monica Fierce (Stephen), Teresa Filtz (William), Daniel Schaid (Pamela), Timothy “Justin” Schaid (Leslie), Charity Beveridge (Kelly), Rebecca Burkley, Jeff Schaid, and Kerstin Herrod (Scott).
Joan married Jack Gordon on June 5, 1987, and together they built a life filled with warmth, dedication, and community. This marriage blessed her with two stepdaughters, Jill Evans (Jim) and Jennifer Vinson (Duke), whom she welcomed warmly into her heart and home.
Her legacy continues through her grandchildren—Jessica, Michael, Kami, Kenzie, Kyle, Ashley, Cayla, Christopher, Ian, Evan, Kai, Lucas, Wolfgang, Lauren and Sydney —and her great-grandchildren, Kennedy and Westin, each of whom she cherished deeply.
Joan was an active and beloved presence in Greensburg. Many knew her from her years of service and friendly spirit while working at Macy’s and Bon Ton, and even more knew her through her steadfast involvement in her church, Harrold Zion Lutheran, where she formed lifelong friendships and lived out her faith through service.
Joan is preceded in death by her beloved son Justin, her husband Jack, her son-in-law Stephen, her parents Raymond and Pauline, and her sister Judy Chamberlain. Their memories remained a source of strength and comfort to her throughout her life.
Joan will be remembered for her kindness, her love for her family, her humor, and her ability to connect with every person she encountered. She possessed a quiet strength and a generous heart, qualities that will continue to inspire all who knew her. She will be profoundly missed.
A celebration of Joan’s life will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2026 at 11:00AM at Harrold Zion Lutheran Church ( 671 Baltzer Meyer Pike, Greensburg, PA 15601), followed with visiting and lunch at the Church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Harrold Zion Lutheran Church honoring Joan’s lifelong dedication to helping others.
