

Jose “Joe” P. Hernandez completed his journey on January 12, 2026, after 82 years. He was the son of Joe and Trinidad Hernandez from Mumford, Texas. Joe was born in Mumford, Texas, on February 22, 1943. He worked in the grocery industry for several years before retiring from Texas A&M University. He also faithfully served his country in the Army National Guard, reflecting his deep sense of duty and commitment.
He was married to Rosie Portales Hernandez for 46 years, and together they raised two children, Joe Patrick Hernandez and Jason Hernandez, whom they loved dearly. Joe was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend whose kindness and steady presence touched everyone who knew him.
He loved spending time in the country, working the land, and taking pride in a hard day’s work. Joe especially enjoyed being outside—cutting the grass, playing with his great-grandchildren, Kinnley, Ryleigh, and Ryder, and his grandchildren, Laynie, Meghan, Grace and AJ. Most evenings, he could be found in the Man Cave watching TV with Jason and talking about life.
Joe is survived by his son, Jason Hernandez; his daughter-in-law, Gina Bosquez Hernandez; his grandchildren, Lanyie Hernandez, Meghan and her husband, Gus Constancio, Grace Carrillo and Zach Sauseda, AJ Carrillo and his wife, Shelby. His sisters, Maryann Esparza and Angelina Garcia, will carry forward his legacy of love, humility, and humor. He was preceded in death by his wife Rosie Hernandez, his son Joe Patrick Hernandez, his father Jose Hernandez, his mother Trinidad Hernandez, his brothers Roy Hernandez, Raymond Hernandez, Jesse P. Hernandez, Tommie Hernandez, Frank Hernandez, his sisters Josephine Garcia, Betty Acosta, Ester Garcia, and Janie Strickland. and many nieces, nephews, and friends who will cherish his memory
A visitation will be held on January 19, 2026, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. The recitation of the Holy Rosary will follow at 7:00 pm on the same day.
The Mass of Christian Burial will take place at Santa Teresa Catholic Church, located at 1212 Lucky St, Bryan, Texas, 77803, on January 20, 2026, starting at 10:00 am.
The committal service will be held at Rest-Ever Memorial Park Cemetery, 5103 N Texas Ave, Bryan, Texas, 77803, on January 20, 2026.
