Joyce Peters was born on December 14th, 1937, in Caldwell, Texas. As a young girl this is where she was raised. Joyce later married her high school sweetheart, Eldie Peters of Caldwell, on June 23rd, 1956. They later moved to Bryan, Texas, where they had three daughters, and Joyce was a stay-at-home mom until her youngest was in the eight grade. She then became employed with JC Penny’s where she retired after 22 years as a department sales associate.
Joyce had many things that she loved to do including, going dancing with Eldie at Lakeview Dancehall in Bryan and the many road trips that they took with no destination in mind. She loved the memories they made out at the lake every weekend with her girls, and a yearly event she loved to attend was the Caldwell Kolache Festival. Joyce and Eldie’s most memorable vacation spots were Hawaii, Nashville, Colorado, and gambling in Louisiana. Joyce attended many sport and extracurricular activities for both her grandkids and great grandkids. Other hobbies she enjoyed were sewing, reading books and magazines, and babysitting for the family. To the grandkids, Joyce was known as Mamma. Her signature dish for them was her homemade chicken noodle soup. The family always got a laugh out of her duty as a “supervisor” over Eldie while he tended to the yard and his garden. The one thing that was most obvious and unwavering was her unconditional love for her family. She was a long-time member of Calvary Baptist Church of Bryan, Texas.
Joyce is survived by her three daughters, Brenda Neveu (Albert), Tammy Abshire (Jack), and Patti Weedon (Steve Marchant). Sister-in-laws Lillie Mae Hyvl, Shirley Gerthe (Gunar) and Dana Harper. Joyce has ten grandchildren: Kendra (Mindy), Krystal (Kayla), Trisha (Josh), Megan, Ashely, Jenna (Austin), Katie, Colton, Garret (Kacie) and Hailey. She was blessed to have twelve great-grandchildren, along with one great-great-grandson.
Joyce is preceded in death by the love of her life, Eldie Peters of 65 years, parents William and Matilda Prazak Harper, father-in-law and mother-in-law William and Meta Peters, sister and brother-in-law Bernice and Charles Ballard, brother Kenneth Harper, brother-in-law Bohus Hyvl.
Visitation will be on Friday, March 10th, 2023, at Memorial Funeral Chapel Bryan, Texas at 10 a.m. Service will start at 11 a.m. followed by a light lunch from 12 p.m. – 1 p.m. Then proceeding to burial site at Bryan City Cemetery.
