Linda Sue Kalinec, née De St. Paer, 77, of Katy, Texas, passed away from natural causes on Wednesday, November 19, in Katy, Texas. She was born on January 15, 1947, in Cherokee, Iowa, to Francis and Ruth De St. Paer.
In 1972, Linda married David Kalinec, Sr., in Bryan, Texas. Together, they built a home filled with faith, warmth, and love. Linda devoted her life to being a beloved wife and homemaker, caring for her family with patience, kindness, and love. She and David eventually settled into the home where she would live for nearly forty-five years, a place that became a hub of friendship and connection. Over the decades, Linda formed close bonds with her neighbors and friends and was known for staying in touch and making others feel remembered and cared for.
Linda enjoyed gardening, filling her yard and home with signs of life and color. She also loved animals, always finding joy in caring for the cats, dogs and other pets that found their way into her life. She spent many happy hours crafting, scrapbooking, and preserving photo memories—always finding joy in celebrating the people she loved and the moments they shared. In the 1980s, she volunteered at Sundown Elementary School, sharing her time and care with students and staff, another reflection of her generous heart.
Above all, Linda was a devoted mother and grandmother. She was always there for her children—driving them to school, helping with homework, and even pitching in with their many FFA animals and skateboarding hobbies. As a grandmother, she cherished sleepovers and babysitting, creating special memories with her grandchildren that they will carry with them always. Her family will remember her as a gentle encourager, a faithful supporter, and a constant presence in their lives.
Linda’s faith was central to her identity. A believer in our Lord and Savior Jesus, she prayed faithfully for her family, friends, and everyone she came into contact with, hoping that they, too, would come to know Him. Her quiet, steadfast faith was a source of strength and comfort to those around her and remains a vital part of her legacy.
Linda is survived by her son David Kalinec Jr., and his wife Molly, and their children Caleb and Katy; her son Christopher Lance Kalinec and his wife Cheryl, and their daughter Ava; her son-in-law Chris Blair, and grandsons Dylan, Wyatt, and Dakota Blair. She is also survived by her sister, Barbara Matejka of Bryan, along with Barbara’s children. Linda was preceded in death by her husband, David Kalinec, Sr.; her daughter, Tiffany Kalinec; and her parents, Francis and Ruth De St. Paer.
A graveside service will be held at Mt. Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum in Bryan, Texas, at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, December 7. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages acts of kindness in her memory, or memorial donations to Special Pals in Katy, TX, a local rescue and rehabilitation organization that shared Linda’s compassion for animals in need.
