

Melvin Henry Ondrasek, 88, went to be with Jesus on February 4, 2017 with his wife by his side after a brief illness.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, February 10 at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan with Reverend’s J.G. Wood and Rudy Junek officiating. Interment will follow at Rest-Ever Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 - 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Melvin was born on December 23, 1928 to Henry John and Millie Mazack Ondrasek in Caldwell, New Tabor Community. After he graduated from high school in 1947, he worked in the mess hall at Texas A&M for one school year. Melvin met his wife on a blind date on December 31, 1949 and married her on July 8, 1950. He then moved to Houston to hang, tape and float sheetrock for about seven years. He then moved his family to Bryan and soon started his own sheetrock business. After retiring he enjoyed living in the country and ranching.
In his early years Melvin enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing dominos. He also barbequed for golf tournaments in the community. For many years Melvin donated an extra-large cake for auction at the Snook Volunteer Fire Department fund raiser.
Melvin is preceded in death by his parents, Henry John and Millie Mazach Ondrasek; daughter, Laverne Carol Ondrasek; and a son, Melvin Ray Ondrasek.
He is survived by his loving wife 67 years, Doris Laverne Dotson Ondrasek of Bryan; daughter, Marie Jane Ondrasek of Bryan; grandchildren, Aaron Zubik and wife Stacy of California, Jason Zubik of Austin, Keri Martin and husband Derek of Oregon, Dustin Lassiter of Missouri, and Tessa Thompson of Pasadena; great-grandchildren, Aeryn, Tyler and Jaydan Zubik and Genevieve Lassiter.
