How can someone adequately express love and respect for their grandmother? Words seem so small at a time like this but, here is to grandma.
My first memories of grandma are little envelopes that came all the way across the USA addressed to me as Master Jason Corbin. Inside was a cheerful card and $5.00. I am not sure which meant more to my little boys mind, the $5.00 or being called Master. Grandma never forgot a birthday that I remember until I turned 18. 
Another memory is when we were visiting grandma’s house in Yucaipa and she gave me one of her badges from work. It was a genuine Wells Fargo star. I still have that star in a safe place to give to my son someday soon.
I remember grandma’s famous fruit cake which I didn’t like. Dad was happy that I didn’t like it because he ate my share every year.
 It seemed like life took me farther and farther away from my grandma but, when we got the call that she was not going to make it, God allowed me to go to her. As we sat around her bed and talked I saw that grandma was a woman of principle. She made some tough decisions and then she stuck with them. She always put her children at the top of her priority list. She gave her children life and she used her life to keep them together through tough times. 
The last memory I have of my grandma is of her children standing at the foot of her bed hugging each other when they realized that she was gone. In life she was the glue of our family and in death she didn’t let go. Let’s make sure that we keep the memory of grandma alive. Let’s stick together.

Grandma, Thank you for the love you gave us. I will miss you very much. I have such special memories: being at your house, good meals you cooked, and the fun we had together.
Your  memory will live on forever in our thoughts.

Betty Drevs was a wonderful mother-in-law.  She was a wonderful grandmother to her grandchildren too.  Her kindness, sense of humor and fun loving ways endured her to me. My husband, Tom, has told us story after story of his wonderful memories of her.  He has also felt such deep concern for her with us living so far away in Peru, and wondering how she was.  God was good to allow him to be  with her and to have been singing a hymn to her when she passed away. Her memory will stay in my heart, for I too loved her as a mother.

In Memory of my Mom:
When I was little Mom was my best friend. She was always kind and encouraging, helping me to develop character and having fun doing it.  We all (the four of us) loved being her kids.  Mom was terrified of snakes, yet when I came home with five foot gopher snake entangling me, she helped me get free.  When she went to work at National Dollar Store she always remembered us with a treat on her paydays.  She would bring us a Coconut Macaroon, Payday candy bar, or something special.  As we grew older and some left home, Mom and I became very close for awhile, and those are special memories.    For quite a many years we have lived a long way from Mom, but she always remembered us.  We made the trip home as often as possible, and those too were good memories for our family.  We must say good-bye now to the best mother, cook, housekeeper, teacher and friend a son could have.

Our thoughts and prayers are with your family. Betty was such a beautiful woman both inside and out. It is so great to be able to read about her life and see the many pictures of her surrounded by her family. We have many fond memories of eating lunch and dinner with her at Silver Ridge. Since I never met your mom, it was so wonderful to get to read about her and see all of the great pictures on this website...I can see I missed knowing a very special person.
I know you have just completed doing one of the hardest jobs there is and that is care giving for your mom.  I so understand what you've been thru having lost my mom just four months ago.  I know our moms are looking down from heaven on us with great pride for the loving and caring daughters they raised.
I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers as we travel this journey thru grief.
We have the peace of knowing we will one day be reunited with our wonderful moms and until then we will hold them close in our hearts living with all of the memories.

Grandma:
Some of my most dear childhood memories consisted of my Grandma Drevs. My sisters and I would spend the night in Redlands. We would not go to sleep when we were told so grandma and grandpa Drevs would take turns coming in telling us such things like go to sleep or else! The longer we stayed awake laughing the funnier the or else would become. Keep in mind we were kids that didn't scare easily. All in all the worst thing that would happen is that we would hide under the covers, laughing while they would try and hit us with a yard stick which only added fuel to the fire, of our laughter. When dad and mom split apart she would come over and help out the best she could, during that time I think I grew closer to my grandma. Hence the stories of her cruising days, and all those crazy dances like the mash potato. Grandma was always late to every family get together and lived up to that until the very end, giving us 15 plus years after the first time I ever heard grandma is not going to make it. 
I always enjoyed visiting grandma especially for all her delicious food she would work so hard to feed us. Always letting me lick the spoon and bowl to her famous baking we all loved.
Bottom line is Grandma Drevs you were loved by all and will be missed dearly.
When we all went to eat at Chili's in Arizona Grandma I really enjoyed our drive there and back. Thank you for being a major part of my life, and for never forgetting who I was no matter how ill you were. I will never forget you either Grandma!

In Loving Memory of my Grandma,

Growing up with my Grandma Betty was interesting and fun. She was the kind of grandma who always made you a dessert and not just gave some cookies from a bag, or a slice of cake she had bought from the market. I can remember those homemade Boston Cream Pies, or those German Chocolate Cakes. Grandma always made our holiday meals like no other. The ones you see on TV with the turkey or ham with all the trimmings and side dishes, well that was my grandma doing all of that herself. How I miss those holiday meals. 

My grandma had a child like spirit about her. She liked to play games with us. Grandma taught my brother, sister and I so many games that we still remember today.(like Kings in the corner, Fargo, ect...) I can remember her taking us for rides in her car driving fast and telling us stories about back in the day when she used to go out cruising. 
Grandma would also come over to our house to go swimming. There was this one time we were both holding hands and we were going to count to three and jump in together. Well we counted to three and I let go of her hand and she was the only one who jumped in. I laughed so hard, but felt bad at the same time so I jumped in as well. Another time at my birthday party my friends and I were playing charades it was kind of boring until grandma got in on the action. She got the card for Rocky Balboa and when grandma started to act it out she made everyone laugh. My friends could not stop talking about it for days.

So Grandma whenever I think of you I will remember all the good times and the moments that were just between you and me. You will be deeply missed. Rest now in peace for you are now with your other family and with God.

Betty, My Mother-in-law: One thing I could brag about was I had the best mother-in-law in the world. It was sad to see her suffer in her last years, but I know heaven is a better place now that she is in Christ's loving arms. Betty always put her family first. She loved her children and grandchildren. Betty and Bob would come to visit us in Bullhead City around Christmas and Betty and Linda would go shopping for all the fixings to make fruit cake and then the baking would begin. When she lived with us for a short time in 2004 all the fruit cake fixings were in the cupboard ready to bake when Betty had to be hospitalized and sadly the cakes where never made. Before that turn of events when I would make lunch for Betty, when Linda was working, we would sit and talk. She shared the good things in her life and all the things that hurt her or made her sad. She would say "Jim treats me lake a queen". Betty would sit in our family room on the couch with Susie Q laying right next to her. Funny thing about that silly dog Betty is the only person she would actually lay next to. We would take Susie Q to see Betty at the nursing home from time to time and she enjoyed seeing her again. When we would take Betty out to eat or go shopping Linda would sometimes yell at me for my driving and Betty would say "I'm never afraid when Jim drives". You know a mother-in-law is never wrong! Betty battled illness many times in her last years. She was in the hospital a lot and Linda was always at her side keeping her company. Linda took many leaves of absence and quit her job at the library twice to be at her mother's side. She saw all her suffering and pain and fought with the hospitals, convalescent home, and insurance company to make sure Betty was as comfortable as possible. I'm sure Betty knows how much Linda sacrificed on her behalf. The family misses her dearly, but we know she is in a far better place. God rest your soul Betty Lou, best mother-in-law in the world, you were indeed a Queen! Jim

I remember all the good times while growing up.  Like playing cards all night, eating popcorn and drinking coffee.  I remember the bad times, not to mention here, but most of all I remember that you loved me and I loved you.

My Grandmother Betty was an amazing woman! Grandma was always fair, loving, sacrificing and generous to all of us grandkids.  

From the time I was very young my Gram exposed me to the finer things in life. At the same time stretching each penny as far as it would go to achieve the best results for all involved. She walked with a presence and always held her posture with gracefulness and dignity. She made her house my favorite place to sleepover. I always knew she'd have a special meal or dessert for me during my visit.  After dinner she'd read us bed time stories and tickle my back until I’d fall a sleep. 

She taught me that "life isn't fair" and if you want something whether it is materialist, spiritual or self gratifying, you should always shoot for the stars, trying to make all your hopes and dreams come true.  She was very encouraging and taught me that I could achieve whatever I wanted to be in life and to always being a person that saw things through from start to finish while NEVER being a quitter. Whatever my goals she endorsed me all the way.

Today, I remember Grandma as being a soft spoken, funny Lady with a whitty comment or comeback.  She was very competitive at card games…well any game for that matter and she never let me or anyone else win.  I would sneak ice cream in the nursing home almost every time I’d visit, Grandma loved “maraschino cherry”. We loved sharing ice cream! While eating we always talked about how something so silly made us so happy and how we would never get enough ice cream.

She left us with hopes, desires, aspirations and many other things.  The thing I remember the most about Betty is she was full of song. She taught me a little jingle when I was young about Two Irish Men…Who else know this song…?*****

My Memories of Mom Early Years: I remember Mom reading bible stories to us and singing all the old church songs, teaching us nursery rhymes, coloring in our coloring books, playing baseball, watching Roller Derby and rooting for Ralphie Valadares, swimming in the pool (once Mom got in she didn't want to get out) and, of course, our legendary all night canasta card games while eating popcorn and drinking orange pop. I remember Mom working in the yard from dawn to dusk watering, weeding, trimming and because her roses were so beautiful people would stop and take pictures. I also remember the comforting sound of the vacuum cleaner running long after everyone was in bed and Mom was still cleaning. Later Years: In 2000, I had the opportunity to take Mom on her last trip home (Ohio). I was terrified because I had never flown and I remember Mom took my hand and said "don't be afraid it's like flying through the clouds with the angels". I opened my eyes and she was looking out the window and she was so happy! I'll cherish all the time we spent together reminiscing about her childhood, and because I was interested in genealogy, I was able to share that her Mom's Grandfather was a Civil War Veteran. I thank God for the opportunity to spend time with Mom in her last years. Our last day together was the Tuesday before she went into the hospital. We were sitting out on the patio gazing up at the white fluffy clouds looking for different shapes and then watching the cars go by and counting how many red, white and blue cars we saw. I'll miss you Mom, but I know you are up in heaven with your Mom singing with the Angels. Love, Your Daughter Linda ~

I will always remember you for all the things that you always tried to due for us as we grew up. I know I was a difficult child and teenager, but even then you were always there for me. I will always remember the stories I was told about how you went shopping on vacation to get a baby girl outfit in Pink to show to everyone and tell them that you were now a grandmother, even though I delivered Kelly while you were 3000 miles away. I know was not around a lot due to living in another state, but I hope that for the last few years I was able to give you a little more of myself since I was only 3 hours away instead of 1000's of miles. You will always be in my heart and I know that you are now in heaven with god and are able to walk and dance again and are with your brothers and sisters and your husband Bob that made it there before you. I love you always.

IN MEMORY OF BETTY DREVS

SISTER:  Betty was the eldest of the youngest three girls in our family of 4 girls and 6 boys.
MENTOR:  Betty, sister Peggy and I played school and games from the time I was very young.  Before I went to first grade she taught me how to recite and write the alphabet and numbers to 100 and simple reading.  I was the only one in my first grade class that had accomplished this.  I remember the three of us going to Grace Methodist Church in Youngstown, OH from the time I was 2 years old and in later years we all sang in the church choir together.  We also walked about a mile to go swimming in the summer (after our chores were done) early in the morning, as it was free from l0:00 a.m. to noon.  In the winter we went ice skating at Lincoln Park which was about a half mile from home.
FAMILY:  Betty married young (18) and moved from our home while I was in 8th grade, so I only saw her when they visited, except for a short time when she and her husband and son Rick lived back at home with us.  I did get to visit her family a few times when they lived in Niles, OH.  Her family moved to Rialto, CA in 1955, the year I was married.  They did visit quite often, every year or two, so we were able to watch each other’s children grow.  We were separated for some time due to jobs, family and distance.  In 1978 I visited in CA for the first time when Betty lived in Redlands, CA and also when she lived in Yucaipa.  Our most memorable trip was when my sister Peg, brother Tom, and I with our spouses went to San Francisco and picked up our oldest sister, Dorothy, rented a 15 passenger van and drove to Yucaipa and visited Betty and Bob, and some of her children and grandchildren came while we were there.  Since Betty moved to Arizona, my husband Bill and I were able to visit Linda and see Betty at the assisted living and nursing home facilities.  At this time Betty had some short term memory loss but we were able to talk about our childhood days with fond memories and she seemed to enjoy our visits.  When I asked Linda if Betty remembered us being there, she could only remember “that nice physical therapist”  that exercised her arms, legs and feet.  The “therapist”  was actually my husband, Bill, and we did get a little chuckle out of that.  We regret that we did not get to visit this month as we had planned, and will miss Betty very much. We will forever hold her and these memories in our hearts.  We know that GOD is holding her in HIS loving arms.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you, and we share in your grief.  We will never forget grandma, she was a very special person.  Thank you for the years that you have lovingly devoted to her care and happiness.
